Friday night, causing damage of between $40,000 and $50.000. According to Captain Harrison, the two-storey frame house was completely engulfed in flames by the time firemen arrived shortly after midnight. just minutes after the fire call came in at 12:10 a.m. Saturday. Equipment from the Port Perry unit, as well as a tanker from the Caesarea branch was used to battle the flames. Captain Harrison said firemen stayed at the . scene until after 5 a.m. Although no cause has yet been determined. there has been some speculation that careless smoking might have caused the blaze. "But at this point, we are only guessing." said Captain Harrison. "It'll be up to the investigation to determine what caused the fire." No one was in the house when the fire erupted. The owner discovered the fire when he returned home shortly after midnight. Const. Alex Kehoe of the Whitby detachment, Ontario Provincial Police is invest- ing for the detachment.
