Over the months harsh words and bad feelings among friends and. neigh- bours developed throughout Scugog township, and now, 'Uxbridge, who is trying to have the centre established and centre iti Church in their community are runn- ing into the same problems. Three months ago, Scugog and Uxbridge councils met with members of the Peni- tentiary = Services and Norman Cafik, M.P., in an effort to straighten the situ- ation out, and from the meet- ing came a promise of a location within a month. That was two months ago. During - this time, in Ux- Services PORT PERRY CHARGE The United Church of Canada Rev. R. McPherson bridge, a group known as the Durham Penitentiary Review Committee has formed and have been trying to get council to review the situation and not accept the centre in the township. Again, hard feelings be- tween friends have developed. Last week, yet another - committee was formed, this time with memb®es. of the Canadian Penitentiary Ser- vices, the Durham Peniten- tiary Review Committee, Uxbridge councillors and -a local resident. -This special penitentiary committee has been designed to co-ordinate public information. The appointments were made last Thursday by Ux- bridge Mayor Carl Puter- bough, and include council- lors Bill Ballinger, Joe Es- monde and Maustyn Mec Knight. Committee chair- man K. Ross Duff, Don Clark, Walter Scott and Tom Craig, represent the peniten- tiary services and Ron Hunter and Gord Davie, re- present the Durham Peniten- tiary Review Committee. Barbara" Harrison is the other committee member. This public information group will now endeavour to tell the public the facts about the centre, facts that have been known for almost a year. These facts have been hashed over time and time again and it is only emotion that is twisting them. Whether the reception centre is going to be built in Uxbridge or in Scugog still remains a secret. Enough committees have been formed and enough time has been wasted, now it's time to get on with the construction, and preferably in Scugog. fF) i is os i Es DO YOU NEED MONEY o If you own a home, farm or property in town, city or country, old or new, paid for or not, our low payment mortgage plan is probably your answer, ® Consolidate All Your Debts o Get Extra Cash Now 1st, 2nd or 3rd mortgages as low as 12% %. 2 "is A team Hor R.
