Drama Night at High School Drama students at Port Perry High School again took - part in the annual Ontario Collegiate Drama Festival held this year at G.L. Roberts Collegiate in . Oshawa. Eight Durham schools took part in the ninth annual fes- tival Monday, one of 25 such festivals held throughout the province each year to give students and - teachers the opportunity to show their dramatic talents. Port Perry's 'entry was Impromptu, a one-act play difficult through its own simplicity. There is heavy emphasis on character por- trayal, according to drama teacher Diane Lackie. "There's no. emphasis on sets or costuming," she said "It's basically a character examination, heavy in sym- bolism...quite difficult." There's a cast of four. Kevin Bruce, Jennifer Carrier, Lisa Barry, and Peter Smith play the parts and teacher David Sims is directing. Because of the small emph- asis on set, costuming and make-up, the backstage crew has been kept to a min- imum. Ted Willis will be handling the behind-the- scenes work. The cast has been rehears- ing for about two month now on-an average of about once a week. "It's going well," said Mrs. Lackie. There is also the opportun- ity to win one of the awards provided by Simpsons-Sears Limited, sponsor of the Ont- ario-wide festival. The ° awards are for best produ- tion, for outstanding perfor- mances and outstanding technical achievement. There is also an adjudica- tor's award, which nfdy be given to an individual or a group and the adjudicator may select a number of deserving students to re- ceive Awards of Merit for acting or other theatrical achievement.
