20 PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 10, 1976 League champion Cougars defeat Flamingos, Muskies By Wayne Venning The Cobourg Cougars have captured the Central Ontario Junior "C" League Champ- ionship by eliminating the Lindsay Muskies in four straight games. Following there 4-2 victory over the Flamingos the Cougars made short work of the Muskies who had finish- ed the season in second place but it now appears the only competition the powerful Cobourg team had was against the Port Perry Club, who would now have to rate as the "runner-up" to the Cougars. _ After an "up and down" season the young Flamingo team played exceptionally well in the Cobourg series and pressed the team to the limit before being eliminat- ed. The Flamingos loose only two regular players, Bob Marquis and Ken Davidson to overage class, but several more will probably be at- tending school out of town and be unavailable to play. Another plus for the local team has been the maturing of the young defensive unit of John Kane, Rob Ashenhurst, Jamie Malcolm and Robert VanCamp. These young players played well in the play-off and with one years experience under their belts should be even stronger next season. With the local Midgets and Bantams both progressing well in their respective play- offs the picture for the future of the Flamingos looks even brighter in the coming season ahead. SPORT SHORTS The Cobourg Cougars will now meet the Huntsville Juniors in the O.H.A. quarter final round. At Sunday's .Cobourg- Lindsay game several troph- ies were presented by the league with Cobourg's Randy Fife winnjng the scor- ing championship; Cobourg the league trophy for a first place finish; Lindsay's Dave Jamieson and Steve Hickson for the top goaltending aver- age; and Dan Dunn of the " BOARDING A A ; (5 CAT & DOG FOOD g Case of 48-15 oz. cans (dented) $6.50 or 0 5 cases at $6.00 each. 0 SHUR-GAIN 20 kg. Wheels down 2 games to 1 (Continued) puck up to centre where Phil Cochrane took over and let a blistering shot go that made the Schomberg goalie shake his glove. Cochrane did it again stealing the puck and pulling the goalie at the very last minute. Rob Evans slipped it over to Steve Jones who drove it past to make the score 6-4. Time was against them and Schomberg served up the win with a goal into the empty net. But the Wheels came off smiling. Again they outshot Schomberg, this time 10-4 and the feeling in the dress- ing room was that those shots would go in next game for sure. "Game four is in Port Perry on Wednesday (tonight) at 9:00 P.M. and game five in Schomberg, Saturday, March 13 at 3:20 p.m. Important essage To Householders Now available in Durham Region 24 HOUR SERVICE by the Durham Home Owners Service Ltd.
