Pearce underwent surgery in Port Perry Hospital last week. Our thoughts are with these two ladies. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Tennyson Samells who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sat. by holding Open House at the C.E. Room of the United Church. They had over 100 friends and relatives call. Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. Samells were Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Samells and Miss Wendy Samells, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rogers, all of Peterborough, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Archer of Bowman- ville, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson of Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van- Camp along with Mr. and Mrs. 'Arthur VanCamp and family of Scugog Island were New Years Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Car- negie of Prince Albert. Debbie, Michael and Stephen Medd of Port Hope spent some holidays during Christmas vacation with father Mr. Harold Medd. Debbie remained and is now attending Blackstock Public School. The Ladies' Curling Club has organized and now the ladies are enjoying Monday and Tuesday afternoon curl- ing at the local {vi If there are any other ladies who would like to try their hand at this game, call president Mrs. Elaine Bailey at 6-4970. There are vacanies among the rovers - those who are on call to curl when some mem- ber is-unable to attend. New Kinettes initiated On January 8, 1976, at the home of Kinette Gerri Langille, the Kinette Club of Port Perry initiated and welcomed five new members. In an impressive ceremony conducted by Kinette President Valerie Sweetman, assisted by Past Presidents Bev Travis and Barb Bradbury, the new members promised to carry on in the true meaning of the association in service to their community. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lawrence and family on the passing of his brother last week. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham attended the Milk Producers' Meeting in Tor- onto last week. Winners at the weekly senior Citizens' Card party were: 1st Dorothy McDiar- mid 96, 2nd Bruce Bright 94, 3rd Susie Harris 92, 4th George Heaslip 83, 5th Marion Bell 79, 6th Mrs. Reid Cook 77, Low Jean Mahaffy. In a very impressive service five Young People 3. were confirmed in the United Church. Caroline Carnaghan Eleanor Gibson, Eric Krist- ensen, Marlene parsons and Valerie VanCamp were re- ceived into church member- ship on profession of faith. Also Mrs. Brenda Bryant and: Mrs. Susan Swain's memberships were received on transfer. Rev. V. Parson delivered an excellent ser- mon on '"The First Step". He, also announced that next week is Sacrament of Com- munion and stressed that all members should make a special effort to ~ttend. Ucw On January 6 the afternoon unit of the UCW me' at the home of Dora Martyn with 12 members and visitors Ruby and Linda Parsons attend- ing. After a delicious dessert lunch the new leader Dora Martyn opened with a poem, "One Day at a Time." Gladys Thompson had a very meaningful Devotion on Time using the hymn I Need Thee Every Hour and taking scripture from Eccl. Use time wisely as God is at both ends of our life. A short business period was conducted. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1976 -- 5 Blackstock Ruby Parsons gave a thought provoking talk on The New Year advising us not to look ahead at the whole year with all its duties to be done but rather to take one step at a time and do one thing at a time. Pause often to draw on God's resources so that we will be able to do what we can when the oppor- tunity arises. A very inter- esting discussion folled the theme before the meeting was closed with the benedic- tion. O.N.O. The January meeting of the O.N.O. was held at the home of June Anderson with 20 members present. Andrea Weir called the meeting to order and the minutes of the December meeting were read. Following the treasur- er's report Andrea thanked everyone for their support during 1975 and turned the meeting over to the new - President Catherine Corden. Catherine announced that this was to be a year of more fun and social get-to- gethers. A social committee has been set up to organize card parties, trips or any other social event suggested. Present business discus- sed included the Skating party, Jan. 29th from 7;00 - 9;00 p.m.; a "Hard-Times" dance on March 27th and two weddings to be catered in the spring. Motions were carried to support Blackstock Teen Organization by purchasing for them a good ping-pong if this was 50 desired and also to donate $25.00 to the Christ- mas Seal Campaign, Con- cluding the business for the evening. Roll Call was "A Trip I Would Like to Take". After which Nancy Bryans presented Andrea with her president's pin and offered congratulations for a job well done. Laughs were shared dur- ing two games with prizes for the winners. June and her group served a delicious lunch to end an enjoyable evening.
