18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1975 Sports Total score 17-7 in two games ---- By Wayne Venning Flamingo Pastries Juniors had very little trouble in defeating Port Hope Pan- thers twice on the weekend to hold on to third place in the Central Ontario Junior "C"" Hockey League. FLAMINGOS 4 PORT HOPE 2 The local club travelled to" the lakeshore town on Thursday night and al- though outshot 44-40 by the Panthers, came away with a well deserved two points. The Flamingos jumped into an early 3-0 first period lead as they dominated play and had goals by Willie Thorn- ton, Orville Crowder and Dean Morgan. The second period was scoreless, but the Panthers fought back to make it close at 3-2 with Barry Roy and Warren Sweeting counting goals. The Port Hope club then pressed for the tie late in the final period, before Orville Crowder put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game. Phil Cochrane up from the Port Perry Midgets played a strong game and collected an assist, while Rob Ashen- hurst had three assists from this defense position. FLAMINGOS 11 PORT HOPE 5 The Flamingos put togeth- er their biggest offensive show of the season to easily handle the Panthers, 11-5. The local club fired 54 shots at Jeff Gilmer in the Port Hope goal and the young goaltender played well to keep the count as low as he did. Phil Cochrane played an excellent game, as he did in Port Hope, counting a hat "trick, as did Doug Christie, who is starting to score on a regular basis after having "problems in the early part of the season. Carol Camma- zola counted a pair of mark- ers, while Steve Jones, Jamie Malcolm and Dean Morgan all scored singles. This was not one of the better games of the season at the local arena but caused lots of excitement for the fans who like to see wide open play and lots of goals. The Flamingos have a Flamingos overpower Port Hope rough schedule ahead this week as they played in Cobourg on Monday evening and then travel to Lindsay to play the Muskies on Friday night, before hosting the Frankford Huskies at home on Sunday. If you're unable to attend the Lindsay game on Fri- day, you can catch all the action on CKLY radio, so follow the Flamingos at home and away. | SPORTS SHORTS | Last weeks action provided no upsets as Cobourg defeat- ed the Huskies 5-3 in Frank- ford, and Lindsay easily handled Stouffville 10-4 on Friday night. George Cawker has peer fired as coach of the Lindsay Muskies and will be replac- ed by Wally Scott who has coached the team for sever- al years, he will be assisted by Jim Humphrey's who played for the Muskies the last three seasons. Andy Litt sat out the week- end games with Port Hope due to a two-game suspen- sion that was the result of being "tossed out" of the 'Stouffville game the pre- vious week. -Bob Spooner who last year was the "Voice of Lindsay .Muskies" on CKLY 'in Lind- say, is now doing the "play by play" commentary for the Port Hope Panthers and Cobourg Cougars on CHUC in Cobourg. The first on a pass from Johnson and the second on a pass from Storry and Horton. For the first two periods in particular, Port outskated Pickering and passed the puck better than they have in any game to this point in the season. Other scoring plays were Gould from Wilbur, Johnson from Wilbur, Horton from Storry and Potts from Robinson. November 21st, at home, the Legionaires had to settle for a 2 to 2 tie with Orono. This was an exciting game in which Port had an advan- tage in territorial play but Orono made use of their scoring chances to take a 2 to lead by the 2:29 mark of the second period. At the 4:23 mark, Robinson with his first goal of the season scored for Port as his slapshot from the blueline. found the mark. Gould at the 2:02 mark of the third, period checked an Orono player at the blueline and fed a pass to Johnson who made no mistake as he was in all alone to notch the tying goal. The Legionaires applied continual pressure controll- ing the puck in Orono's end of the rink throughout the latter stages of the third period but were unable to get the go ahead goal. November 15th at. Osh- ,awa's Civic Auditorium, Port defeated the Black Hawks of the little N.H.L. by a 4 to 2 count. 'Juveniles defeat Pickering In aleague game played at Pickering Village, Novem- ber 20, Menzies Motors Juve- niles outplayed the Picker- ing team by a wide margin for a 4-0 win. The game was high lighted by the hard checking, positional and clean play of the Port boys.
