J Lesley Griffin (NDP) 7a. Lower Cost of Housing The principle that will guide a New Democratic housing policy is that decent housing at a reasonable cost is the right of every Ontario resident, not a luxury. The most-fundamental reform in NDP housing policy will be to end the profiteering in urban lands which underlies most of Ontario's housing problems. Land prices in areas approaching development will be frozen to stop speculation. Land banks will be developed to control prices in smaller cities and towns. The NDP intends that most new urban development in Ontario take place on leased Crownhold land, under a new system designed to ensure moderate-priced housing. ° and $12,000 per annum. b. Quality Education The Ontario Savings Bank and a Provincial tax credit system would be used toreduceeffective morfgag per cent for families earning less than $8,000 per annum and averaging 8 per cent for families earni - ates to 6 between, $8,000 « WAGG BROS. TEXACO 257 Scugog St. Port Perry Phone: 985-7262 c. Qualit Education is a process of social, economic and personal development and it is the rehumanizing of education that concerns the NDP. What is needed is a re-examination of the educational system, curriculum, materials and instruction - toremove all bias, such as sex, race, ethnic and anti-labour. Unfortunately, money is wasted on lavish new buildings and stacks of extra aids for schools when in reality the site for learning is irfelevant if a good teacher is involved. Greater emphasis must be placed on the training and choosing of teachérs. Greater student and parental involvement in the decision making process concerning staff and curriculum is a must. of Life ; } The underlying theme behind all policies of the New Democratic Party is concern for people. The many problems of our society, which seem to be aggravated by our present government, as those which the NDP are most concerned with crises in housing, education, environment, unemployment, agriculture, energy and the seemingly uncontrollable high cost of living, are all contributing factors in the growing feelings of frustration, discouragement and disillusionment which are experienced by many people today. By making people the focal point for all policjesthe NDP hopes to bring about a rehumanization of society. Note: Clare Morrison (Lib) and William Newman (PC) refused to respond to this questionnaire.
