'Not only has Ajax endorsed the resolution by the Town- ships of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog asking for a return of the services to local munici- palities, but 'Ajax has expanded on the northern resolution and sent Premier William Davis and Darcy McKeough, Minister of Treasury, Economics, and Inter-governmental affairs. In a joint meeting of the three northern townships over a month ago, a resolut- ion calling for the return of such services was approved. Since then, however, Scugog township's Mayor Lawrence Malcolm withdrew the resol- ution when it came before regional council three weeks ago. Mayor Malcolm said at the time that the motion was forwarded by Scugog Coun- cil, rather than jointly by the three municipalities. He said Scugog may have acted "too hastily", and hinted that such a withdrawal may not be to the best advantage of the northern municipalities. Suggesting that only trunk mains and treatment facil- ities be left a responsibility of Durham Region, Ajax states other upgrading could be more readily accommodated at the local level on a phased Scugog Though June 10 is the' official birthday for the United Church of Canada, most of the churches will celebrate the 50th annivers- ary with special services. The Jr. Choir will help on Scugog. Except for the heat on May 25, many people of the Scugog Pastoral Charge en- joyed the bus trip to Peter- borough, where approx. 6000 . people celebrated an evening in the arena, which had been planned and worked out. by the Bay of Quinte Confer- ence. On Saturday and Sunday Mrs. Earl Reader participat- ed in a re-union in Orange- ville and Shelburne with former Toronto school day friends. The four members of this group had lived to- gether for a year and had many memories to recall. They also joined in a church service as they had always done during the year of school On Monday the former Barry girls, who lived on the Middleton farm had a joint visit with their grandmother, Mrs. Cooper of 'Haliburton. Reta Reader was pleased to be included in this visit. It is always pleasant to renew friendships with people who have shared a part of our lives, even though the years may bring chahges and sep- arations. Tonight the "Head" UCW will meet at the home of Bonnie Gerrow. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter have returned after a 25 day bus tour to California. They were both quite well and able to enjoy all the sights without the period of heat that we were experienc- ing at home.
