Dear Sir: The following is in answer to Mrs. Kellington's eight points concerning the Port Perry Yacht club. These eight points were specific- ally dealt with at the meeting . held for the benefit of the Robinglade Estate residents. It would appear that the vocal minority were either not listening to our presenta- tion or went to the meeting with preconceived ideas. 1) Orderly development of their community? - The yacht club wishes this also, and since the land is not zoned we feel it is a good location for a yacht club. It is ironical that Lots 1 to 14 in Registered Plan 468 were originally slated for cottage lots and now have a mixture of cottages and permanent homes on them. Mrs. Hedges home is one of these. The yacht club has applied to all agencies required for per- mission to dredge -and build, and is not contravening any law or regulation. 2) Non Presentation of bylaws to the Ontario Munic- ipal Board? - This does not pertain to the Yacht Club situation. 3) Commercially Deeded Venture? - The Yacht Club is on record with the Town- ship of Mariposa to the effect that we are willing to put on title that the land will not be ged for any commercial vé ture in the future. Olympic Lottery _ Tickets AVAILABLE AT THE Port Perry Star 985-7383 4) Yacht Club not suffic- iently informed? - - We feel that we are well informed on the area and we have spent much time and money to be so informed. We have several professional people on our executive, and have used their expertise in pre- paring our plans, 5) Agencies need time? - We agree that the various agencies involved need time to make decisions. but we believe we are sufficiently well informed that we can aid in these decisions. There is not one outstanding or unanswered question left with any authorities men- tioned. 6) With 48 acres available, why is the yacht club build- ing inside the mouth of the Nonquon? - Although we have 48 acres, approximat- ely 45 acres is totally un- usable both now and in the future and is not suitable for anything but particularly a clubhouse for the yacht club. 7) Wildlife, fish spawning grounds etc. in danger? - This matter has been inves- tigated thoroughly by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the area with- in which we will be operat- ing will not have any detrimental effect and we now have their approval. 8) Traffic Damage? - We realize that there has been a controversy between the res- idents and the Region of Durham and Township of Mariposa. It is unfortunate that two municipal authori- ties have jurisdiction over the roads in that area. We - sympathize with the resi- dents in this matter and from our information we believe that it is close to resolution, and all roads in that area are to be paved this summer. The yacht club has also offered and is going on record with the Township of F. As all these apparent questions on - the petition were answered at the February 11th meeting at Conway 'Gardens we could only assume that the petition was drawn previous to this meeting. At that meeting there were 38 residents, 12 of the Port Perry Yacht Club Executive and Council mem- bers from Mariposa. From. speaking with all people there for a period of over 4 hours we believe that there were only eight people at that meeting that were op- posed. The rest were either for the Yacht Club or at that point non-commital. In closing, does it not seem ironic that the permanent resident closest to the future yacht club site does not oppose Port Perry Yacht Club. ~ Yours very truly, B.D. Mr. Watson more We pay, they profit Dear Sir: It's too late, I guess, to object to paying the $624 that the new arena is going to cost me over the next few years (using Mr. Hall's cal- culations). But here's an idea to reduce the burden on township residents: The remaining $200,000 to be raised locally should be con- tributed by the NHL and the WHA. These are the only interests who benefit finan- cially from our civic arenas. Through their instru- ments, the amateur hockey associations, they keep the young players in peonage, make their pick of these captives, process the raw material and cream off the profit in television rights and box office income. Without the civic arenas what would they do for players? They should at least contribute to their cost and what's $200,000 to the millionaire owners in the NHL? Bill Graham, Greenbank. has been directing the choir while our organist is on holi- days. Infant Baptism will be observed on April 6th. Inter- ested parents contact Rev. Brawn. Support Town Hall project A 'significant year' in promoting the cause and awareness of local history, is what the Lake Scugog His- torical Society is expecting in 1975. Most interesting, accord- ing to president Bill Brock, is the Town Hall restoration and the proposal to use the hall as a theatre this summer. Mr. Brock said that al though he is closely involved in these plans at this time, the result of current efforts to promote the project are not yet clear. Although, he said, any comment at this time would be difficult. "However,'"' sates Mr. Brock, "it is hoped that the Historical Society members will support both restoration and theatre projects in every possible way. Both should be beneficial to both citizens individually and the com- munity as a whole". HOME IMPROVEMENT DO IT NOW-AT SAVINGS!
