On Friday night, the Flam- FLAMINGOS | SPORT SHORTS Lindsay Trent-Muskies made short work of the Port Hope Panthers in their series defeating them in three straight games by scores of 9-2, 4-2 and 5-3 in an overtime game. Cobourg Cougars lead the other play-off series 2 games to nil by virtue of 8-5 and 4-2 scores. This series third game was played Monday night in Cobourg. One of the hardest working Flamingo in the past two games has been veteran centreman Neil McLaughlin. Neil has been doing a great job of checking the Huskies number one line and also killing penalties. The Flamingos seemed to have rediscovered their powerplay as they scored five goals in Frankford on . Friday. " Last years coach Fred Etcher attended Sundays game and after the game congratulated many of last years players on their victory. . Thijs would have to rate as samewhat of an upset by the Flamingos, since - the Frankford club have not lost a home game since last December. In one of the most exciting and fastest games of the year, the two clubs traded goals back and forth until late in the third period when the Flamingos scored two goals to earn the win. Wayne Cordingly turned in another great game in goal as he stopped 46 Huskies shots, while Steve MacDon- ald of Frankford made 41 saves. ; This was a superb team effort by the Flamingos who got two goal efforts from Ken Jeffrey and Ed Olsen with singles going to Dave Hill, Dave Jobb, Robin Kydd and Bernie Aldred. On Sunday night the two clubs continued where they left off in Frankford with another exciting hard fought game before over 500 Fla- mingo fans in the local arena. In this game the local club took an early 2-1 lead and _ never allowed the visitors to get within two goals at any time, the final score being 6-3. The Flamingos put together another team effort as they got single goals by Paul Hadden, Dave Jobb, Neil McLaughlin and Rick Campbell. Bernie Aldred played another strong game as he picked up two goals. Barry Heard returned to action for the Flamingos and made 40 saves, although Barry didn't have as many tough saves as did Wayne Cordingly on Friday night, he did make the 'big' play when he was called upon to - do so. The third game of the series is slated for tonight, Wednesday, with the action switching back to Frankford _on Friday night. This is great hockey action and another large crowd should be in attendance for Wednesday evening. This was the. Wheels score 15 goals against Uxbridge in 2 games Game one of the playoffs "between Uxbridge and the Port Perry Toyota Wheels was an exercise seyerance. Time and time again the Wheels were foiled by the outstanding play of the Ux- bridge goalie. In the first period, Rick Taylor, Gord Scott and Phil Cochrane each shot several times before Cochrane final- ly put the puck between the posts. Uxbridge came right back with two quick goals and led the Wheels going into the second period 2-1. The Wheels don't like being behind -and early in the second period, John Scott broke up an Uxbridge rush and scored while being- checked by two Uxbridge players. Scott slid heavily into the boards and caused a few anxious moments before he stood up. Robert Evans scored on a back-hand high into the cor- ner with the assists going to Malcolm and Cochrane. Mike Adam made it 4-2on a single-handed effort and John Kane nailed down the win on a sizzling shot from just inside the blue line. Final score, Wheels 5, Uxbridge 2. The Toyota Wheels felt 5-2 was too close for comfort in game one so they really put the pressure on in game two. They whipped Uxbridge 9-0. Cochrane led the way, pick- ing up six points on three goals and three assists. Gord Scott followed with two goals and two assists. Charlie Durward went all the way for the Wheels and was outstanding in net for the winners. Whenever the boys up front let a shot get by, Durward was there to save the day. The Port Perry boys played excellent hockey while taking some questionable checks from the Uxbridge boys. Elbows and sticks were common and even gloves to the nose went un- in per- noticed by tne referees, put the Wneels never let up or lost control. Six goals were scored in the third period to prove that they were there to play hockey and the scoring was spread around so Ux- bridge had quite a time watching every man. fourth goal scored for Flamingos in the second period. John Scott scored from Hor- ton and Page, Don Tran from Gord Scott and Kane, Larry Page on a pass from Coch- rane, and Rob Evans from Tran. The Wheels defense played super hockey and again Crawford and Malcolm came up with some solid work. Kane and Taylor are a threat to anyone standing in front of their powerful shots from the point. Bantams reach Lakeshore finals February 3rd Port Perry Beare Motors Bantams opened the playoffs with a big 4 -2 win in Port. Up till the end of the 2nd period, West Rouge had taken the lead twice.
