The action is fast and for hockey fans, that's the way hockey should be. The coaches and manag- ers 'are rewarded by their boys enthusiasm' and inter- est, apart from any success on the ice. Success is an added reward for everyone. The players, however, are the ones who could receive the most benefit. This is the most important time in their lives. They are learning to polish their skills in hopes of catching the eye of a visiting scout. Hopefully, they learn self-control. Thay learn to work as a team, to share in defeat as well as in victory, all useful lessons both on and off the ice. How true the words: It matters not whether you win or lose but how you play the game. All this rhetoric is simply to say that for Stouffville it has been a wasted year for everyone, and the biggest losers were the players. The game on January 6 with our Toyota Wheels was the last encounter of the year and again coach Bob Baygay- was thrown out of the game. Despite the referees order to leave the rink, Mr. Bangay returned again and again to harass the officials and eventually the referees ignored his tantrums explaining to Port Perry's team that this would definit- ely be his last game as a coach for a long time. The Stouffville team had 25 minutes in minor penal- ties, plus three misconducts and two game misconducts. Port Perry picked up four- teen minutes. Don Tran opened the scor- ing for the Toyota Wheels with Gord Hintze picking up the assist and Dave Horton notched his nineteenth of the season from Steve Jones. The line of Gord Scott. Stouffville's lone marker was scored by Danny Wagg. Final score 4 - 1 in favour of the Wheels. The flu bug has hit almost everyone including the Wheels and despite this, the boys will tackle the Mark- ham midgets on Monday, Jan. 13. Good luck boys! Port Perry Bantams defeat Port Hope Port Hope came to Port Perry last Wednesday to play the Beare Motors Rantans. This was one of the rough- est and hardest hitting games Port has played. Port dominated the play all through the game and were never weak in the corners or any part of the ice, which was the major fault of the Port Hope team. Bill Owen started Port off with a goal he fired by their goaltender. The goalie made the original save but was unable to hold it and the puck rolled in. Rob Greiner "picked up the assist on this goal. Rob and Bill managed to score the second of Ports goals four minutes into the second period. Mike Healey and Bill Owen received the assists while Robbie Greiner fired in the goal. ) Three minutes later, Pete Lane picked up a goal assis- ted by Mark Lee and Scott Wilbur. Port Hope, scored their only goal six seconds into the third period. Mark Lee, soon made up for their goal one minute later, after making a rink long dash and wrapping it by their goalie. Ports last goal was scored at the 5:32 mark of the third by Tom Perigoe. Mark also assisted on this goal. Tom- my blasted the goal in from ES TE EE Er ar the point after firing it over. the net earlier that shift twice. Hard hitting Dave Cham- bers played his best game of sthe year with Tommy Perigoe on defence, control- ling the play consistently throughout the game. Next home game is Wed. night at 9 0'clock against first place Uxbridge. This should be a good game to watch. Stouffville ties Bobcats On Thursday, January 9th, the Murray Williams Bob- cats Midget 2 team hosted the Stouffville club and were lucky in coming up with a four all tie. This Stouffville club has really improved from the start of the year when the Bobcats were beat- ing them by scores of 13 to 1, 8 to 4, and 13 to 2. The Bobcats biggest problem is players showing up for games because no team can keep on winning when you have a different line-up every game. This situation is going to have to change if the players want to win the championship of the league. Mike McQuade, Colin Asselstine, Bill Bridge and Tim Ashbridge did the scor- ing for the Bobcats while J. Burton, Brian Aida, Brian Hamm and Dave Middleton scored for Stouffville. - The next home game for the Bobcats is Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. when' again they host Stouffville. This should be an exciting game as the Bobcats need it to get back on their winning ways while Stouffville want the win to keep their winning streak going. Then the next night, 'Fri., January 17 at 9:30 p.m., the Bobcats travel to Uxbridge for the last game of the schedule before the playoffs. PeeWees beat Stouffville 4-3. In a hard played game Stone's Pee Wee "B" defeat- ed Stouffville 4 to 3. Stones scored early in the first period. Stouffville tied it up before the end of the first period. In the second period, Stouffville scored two goals and went ahead 3 to 1. In the third period, Port Perry really went. to work and started playing hockey. They scored three goals, winning the game 4 to 3. Scoring for Port Perry was Tim Thompson with 3 goals and Jack Wanninkhof with one goal. Scoring for Stouff- _ ville was Jack Postma, Tony Ledger and Mike Mumford each with a goal. BROOMBALL Utica Auto Body 4 - Duff's towing - 0 The win for Utica put them in second place over Caw- kers. Butchers. Both Utica and Duff's played a good defensive first period with neither team picking up a goal. Then Utica took over in the second period with four . goals. .. . Utica started off with just 10 seconds gone in the second period when Jack Mitchell tipped it in from Jack Monema. At 15:31, Don Card scored from Ron Redman to lead 2-0. at 16:57, Mike Mitchell scored on his own for Utica. Then with just 10 seconds left in the game, Don Card was awarded a goal as he was on a breakaway on a empty net and was interfer- red by a player on Duff's team who was on the bench. Dennis Symes picked up the shutout. Smits Cycle & Sports - 4 Cawkers Butcher's - 0 A win for Cawker's would have put them in second, but Smit's stopped them to take a greater lead of first place. Smit's had two in the first and two in second. Sawker's couldn't get organized and Smit's took the advantage. In the first period, Don Gray scored from Pat Thompson at 4:25. Then Pat Thompson picked up a goal at the 12:00 mark unassisted. It wasn't until late in the second when Smit's scored: again at 17:43 by Chris Denure from Ron Short. But Brian's ended it off with two more goals. One at 16:51 by Jim Mc Laughlin from Paul Christie and John Cooper.
