The Huskies built up an early 3-0 lead on two goals by Lou Doucette and one. by brother, Steve, as the Fla- mingos could not seem to get untracked. L. The Huskies recsiyed out- standing goaltending from Steve McDonald who made 38 saves during the game. Dave Hill and Paul Had- den scored for the local club with Scott Poupart getting the final Huskie goal. The Flamingos played the Cougars in Cobourg on Mon- day night but the game was too late for the papers dead- line. The biggest game of the season takes place this Sun- day night, January 12th when the Lindsay Trent- Muskies come to town for a first place showdown. This should be the key game for the Flamingos if they hope to end up on top and should be a dandy, so come early as a large crowd can be assured when these two teams take to the ice. Steve Craig one of the top defensemen on the club was very happy following the All-Star game in Cobourg, December 23rd when he was picked the top player on the AllStar squad and was awarded a gold wristwatch for his effort. Dave Bourgeois who has finished his current semes- ter at school, and has joined the Flamingos, picked up a couple of goals and an assist to mark his debut. The team travelled out to Kitchener and returned with the Con- solation trophy in the regional Toyota Tourn- ament. In the first game the boys played Aurora and came out slow and couldn't seem to catch up and as a result they lost by a score of 7-4. We'll blame this on nerves because we've sure seen the Wheels play better hockey. In the second game, it was a different story. The Wheels met a big, strong team from Riverside and although the Riverside goalie was very sharp, our boys from Port Perry work- ed together and came out ahead by a 5-2 score. The team and their par- ents stayed overnight and while the boys were enter- taining themselves in the hotel swimming pool, the parents were dancing the evening away. All courtesy of the Toyota Company. On Sunday, the final game against Stoney Creek was icing on the cake for the Wheels as they whipped the opposition 8-3 to bring home the trophy. This past Saturday, the Wheels were off to Camp- bellford and this time it was three tough games and win- ners all the way. In game one, they met Lakefield and won by a 4-1 score. This was an interest- ing game since Lakefield may be a team in contention during play-offs. Warsaw was the second team to go down to defeat at the hands of the Toyota Wheels, this time the score was 5-2 and everyone worked well to earn this win. In the Championship game, it was Wellington facing our Wheels, The Port Perry team had their tough- est game, as a Championship should be. } The Wellington goalie was outstanding and stopped shot after shot but the Wheels never gave up and emerged the victors by the score of 5-2. Phil Cochrane won the trophy as Most Valuable Player for Port Perry and the Wellington goalie won it for his team. Port Perry 'Toyota Wheels is a team. [Every player shares in their successes and their failures and all of the boys deserve your support at their home games on Mon- days, at 9:00 p.m. .
