d A - The Christmas Service at "Grace" Church had many special features. John and Edna 'Beckett welcomed all atighe entrance while Louise Hope played lovely Christ- mas music. Next we noticed the outstanding altar dis- play, depicting the Christ- mas story. The items re- quired, had been owned by the late Edna McLaren and were now put in place by her "dear friend, Cawker. ® The Jr. Choir again sang their best, accompanied by Geo. Freeman with his guitar. Shelley & Tammy Freeman, Karen McQuinn, David Bruce, Eddie Rat and Chris Midwa elsh sang "Drummer Boy". Rev. Pogue told the child- ren a story of Christmas and o tothe adults he reviewed the different approaches given to the Story by the four Gospel writers and their reasons. i Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fralick were accompanied by" their Christmas guests, daughter Marilyn and her husband with three lovely little daughters from Sudbury. : On Friday evening pre- viously, the Jr. Choir was taken by the Freeman bus, to the new Sr. Citizen apts. in Port, where they sang carols to the residents. Mr. C. Raffin also went along and gave an extra treat in song. Then they returned to the Church basement where a hot lunch was waiting. This was followed by an exchange of gifts. Thanks are extend- ed to Mrs. Lowe and Mrs. Midway Welsh for helping. Mr. and Mrs. John Sweet- man are very happy with the recent visitations they have had. First, John's cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Sweet- man from San Francisco spent a few days. It is two years since their last visit and they had hoped to see more of the Canadian winter. Later, John's brother Allen with his granddaughter, Beth, arrived with sister, Mrs.. Myrtle Miller and added to the family pleasure. Belated sympathy is extended to the family of the late, Mr. Elwin Goose, who Madeline" Scugog. was finally released from his months of suffering from a terminal illness. Mr. Harold Forder ac- companied some other men on a 5-day flight to Nebraska where they reviewed cattle- raising on a very extensive range and incidentally enjoyed the change of scenery. - After Christmas Don and Bonnie Gerrow flew to Esta- van, Sask:, to visit Bonnie's Mother and brother's family. Mrs. Ethel Redman is steadily improving with her therapy and was able to be home for the family gather- ing at Christmas. + Several members of the Oliver Reader family spent Christmas at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reader. Some people will remember his late wife's sister, Miss Frances Clarke, a former nurse and frequent visitor to On Dec. 30, she 'celebrated her 90th birthday at Hillsdale Manor. Though the body has become frail, she still retains her wit. On a recent Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Reader visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Angus in Kinmount. Mrs. Marven Hughes is again at her home at Port View Beach and recovering from a throat operation prior to Christmas. Her surgery was a tricky process and almost resulted in her demise. Therefore, we are very pleased to know the operation was a success and now she is returning to her normal, jolly self. The Cliff Love's had a lively Christmas season with visitation of daughter, Barbara, her husband and their three sons from the London area. It is so nice to know that former Scugog residents have pleasant memories of their sojourn of residency among us. We heard from the four Gibbons sisters and Mrs. Maye Ploss of Port View. Mrs. Flora Muffet who is. now quite ill in the Riverdale Hospital. The wife of the the late Rev. C. C. Gilbert is well and still interested in her writings. Mrs. Ada Pearson, who has [J RELIABLE PLUMBING & HEATING NEW INSTALLATIONS REPAIRS -- ALTERATIONS "Service is our business" PLUMBING - WES LANE HEATING - - ELECTRIC . PORT PERRY 985-2413 OFFICE -- RESIDENCE part of her family here, comes to our functions as often as possible. Mrs. Elvan Martyn still has her heart in Scugog, as the home of her birth and much of her life. Miss Laura Needham, now of B.C. and formerly a child at the Foot of the Island likes to recall her school days and one of her teachers. Those who are fortunate in hearing from Rev. and Mrs. Braham, had a real treat this year when they shared their experiences in the Holy Land and among the Arabs. The "Head" U.C.W. will meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Clarence Carter. For roll call, bring your unused coupons of various products, also used stamps from- Christrnas. Reta Reader will not be collecting the cards this year. Rev. Wylie took the post Christmas Service. This is the time when children and adults relax and there may be a general let down feeling and"we wonder what the Minister can choose for his subject. But Mr. Wylie had a very different and interest- ing approach to this period. Let us, too, start the New Year with new ideas and hdd 1Y Br CA LP FAA TR) vit } £ enthusiasm! . Mr. Perc. Sweetman trom Windsor was accompanied by Mr. Ross Prentice of Port Perry when they visited during the holidays at the home of the former's cousin, Mr. John Sweetman. On Sunday, the weather encouraged a good number to start the new year at "Grace" Church. Rev. Pogue reminded the children of their return to school and what it would mean. His story illustrated that they should be doing it to accom- _ plish a vision for their lives. This is the time when we look back at our year's accomp- lishment and set goals fo the new year. Therefore these things must all be revealed in meetings. Accordingly the Board of Stewards and Elders will meet next Sunday after Church. The Congregational meeting has been set" for Thurs., January 23 at 8 p.m. And it means just that, when all of the Congregation is invited to attend, to learn what is going on, ask quest- ions, express views and carry on in official positions. Heads of organizations, please have your reports to Rev. Pogue by Sunday or January 19, at the latest, so he can at least make copies of the financial reports. Itis Rev. Pogue's desire to start a Communicant Class for anyone wishing to join the Church at Easter. Please let him know soon. It seems that we spend weeks building up for Christ- mas, but as soon as it is over we have a tendency to quick- ly pull everything apart and slide back in the old routine.
