anna I A "Work beginsonbylaw for joint dog control . Councillors and officials from Uxbridge and Scugog are working on plans for a joint dog control program. Last Wednesday night, a meeting was held in Port Perry at which councillors from both townships agreed to recommend the joint ven- ture 'to - their respective councils. Costs of the operation would be split between the two townships and the Ux- bridge pound at Goodwood would be used. Mrs. Ann Barrett, Ux- bridge canine control officer, would look after both town- ships if councils approve. Mrs. Barrett currently picks up dogs in the former township of Reach under an agreement with the old council. Dogs from Scugog Island and Port Perry are currently sent to Whitby while the Cartwright pound is now in Bowmanville. Coun. Reg Rose of Scugog said he had estimated oper- ational costs of the pound at about $16,000 for next year if both townships were to use it. Ron Kester, Uxbridge Clerk-administrator, estim- ated the cost at about $19,000 and this would include Mrs. Barrett's salary. A joint-committee was established to draw up a uniform dog-control bylaw and dog tag fees for the two townships. The two townships collect- ed almost $15,000 in dog tag fees beftveen them this year. There was a discussion about what the fees should be and on how to make sure people bought dog tags. There was agreement that one township should operate the pound and bill the other township for one half the cost and that each township would collect and keep the revenue from dog tags for its area. Mrs. Barrett said she gets about 100 calls a month from Uxbridge and makes bet- ween 20 and 25 pick-ups a month. Since Scugog has almost the same population, a similar number could be expected she said. It has cost $10,600 so far this year to operate the pound. . Uxbridge councillors said the pound was modern and efficient and had cost $10,000 to build. The committee will report to council as soon as possible with a recommendation about uniform bylaws as officials hope things can be ready for the new year. No racing now (continued) the North American cham- pionship. First prize was $50.00. This points to the major concern of the partners which is financial support. Mr. Cox said he spent $2,500 for the outfit and then, another $1000 and 70 hours of work to rebuild it. But now that they are North American champions, there is some hope that the Kawasaki factory may back them. Bill is now in British Columbia and his mother says he is looking for a job as a bush pilot. "I'm pretty sure he will settle down in British Col- umbia," she said. "There are the most opportunities for bush pilots there." Mrs. Davidson said Bill may also be looking into Something Extra E : The Lord Simcoe has something njoy a 'extra for you. Bill was brought up in the Port Perry area. "But ever since the time he was 16, he had been interested in motorcycles," Mrs. Davidson said. 'He had his first motorcycle when he was 17, and he went across Canada and down the coast. The team has considered going on a European cam- paign, if they can raise the money to finance the trip. They are interested in the Isle of Man 750 Class. They believe they could do well if they can get the money to get there. But, Bill's parents are hoping they never get the money they need. MacDonald (continued) racing in 50 hours a week and he is on 24-hour-call all winter. If Mr. MacDonald aver- aged 50 hours a week for a full year, his hourly rate - would work out to around $4.60 for this past year. Under the new schedule Mr. MacDonald will receive $15,000 a year. . Mr. MacDonald pointed out that despite inflation this year, the Roads Department would be within one per cent of the budget they set in January. MEDICATED.
