Television crew made a visit to film a short feature entitled, *"Thanks- giving on the Farm" show- ing a day in the life on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin. The crew came to the United Church to film the McLaughlin's coming to church on Thanksgiving Sun- - day and continued to show many features at the farm - including Edith difting the ~turkey from the oven, grand- son Jason saying Grace, Roy feeding some cattle, taking a walk in the woods and of course throwing a few horse shoes. The film was shown 'on the C.B.C. T.V. 'Monday evening. . At both Churches special Thanksgiving services were held with fine congregations. At the United a near capa- city congregation was pre- sent when the Sacrament of Baptism was conducted by Rev. V.M. Parsons when Jaqueline Nadine Strong daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Strong, and Andrew Stuart Wilson son of Mr. and ~Mrs. George Wilson were baptised. The Junior Church Choir under the direction of Linda Kyte and Judi Mount- PLUMBING joy made its debut with a fine anthem, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Larmer and family of Barrie were Thanksgiving Sunday guests of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Russell Larmér. Thanksgiving visitors of Mr. and 'Mrs. Harry Van Camp and also of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Marlow were Mr. R.H. Heaslip of Milton, Mrs. Armstrong of Toronto and Mrs. M. Miller of Peter- borough. Mr. and Mrs. Wil- son Heaslip of Lindsay spent Sunday with the family gath- ering. On Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Camp and their company enjoyed supper at Yelverton United Church supper. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Holi- day of Columbus XMr. and Mrs. George Bray of Raglan were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Holiday and girls. Mrs. Maggie Argue along with Mr. and Mrs. Hyde of Rochester spent a week with her cousin, Mrs. ~L. Hern at Thessalon. While it was hanging on a tree beside mainstreet, Tom had many visitors admiring his "kill". Candace Unit of U.C.W. Peggy Larmer was hostess for the Candace. Unit on Tuesday morning, Oct. 8. Unit Leader, Alma Duff opened the meeting with a poem. Minutes were read and approved. Roll Call was answered with "Something for which we are thankful". The Presbytery dinner, Oct. 15th is to be held in Black- stock and the ladies signed menu list. r Jean Kyte gave the devot- ional on "Thanksgiving" with the offering received and dedicated. Edith Mc- Laughlin was in charge of the programme on Steward- ship which included a re- cording of Dr. Robt. McClure followed by question and discussion period and pray- er. Sixteen members of the Anna Unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Elizabeth Skelding on Oct. 8 at 1:00 After a delicious dessert, Unit Leader Flora Samells opened the meeting: with a .poem entitled "Thanks". Camp opened the devotional with a Thanksgiving Hymn, "Now Thank We All Our God". Psalm 145 was read -telling of God's goodness and although we all seem to be - nfore aware of this at- Thanksgiving we were re- minded that every day should begin and end with thankfulness. Mrs. Van Campread a Poem Prayer on Thanksgiving. Roll Call was answered with many thoughts and reasons for giving thanks. Dora Martyn took us on.an interesting trip to Alaska via Margaret Van- - 8} Blackstock and area news and views outlined on a map the route that she and Harold took through Northern Ontario and Alaska. The beautiful scenery shown in the slides and the interesting way Dora described the trip made it a most interesting experience for us all. Names like Anchorage, Fairbanks, Daw- son City and many others mean so much more when seen with beautiful snow- capped mountains and ice- bergs around them. The thanks of the meeting was expressed by Flora Samells. The Regional Meeting for U.C.W.Presbyterial will be held in Orono on Oct. 21. Jean Adams will be driving for anyone interested in go- ing along. ) A few items of business rounded out the meeting and we closed with the Mizpah Benediction. May we always be thankful that our Lord does watch between us while we are absent from each other. The Fair Board is still receiving pictures for the contest in the two classes- black and white, and colour- ed of scenes of Blackstock Fair, 1974. If you have not already entered, do so yet, if you have a suitable pictiire. On October 1, méeting No. 3 of the Blackstock Canter- ing Cooks was held at the Recreation Centre at Black- stock. We were split into three groups - the first group made apple dumplings; the second group made Finn and Hadie, and the unlucky third group cleaned up. Mrs. Adams demonstrated _the making of Irish Soda Bread and brought along some she had made. Afterwards we all sat"down to a delicious- snack of Finn and Hadie, Irish Soda Bread and topped off with apple dumplings. On Wednesday evening a reception in honour of Rev. and Mrs. Merrill Ferguson was held in Kingsview Unit- ed Church, Oshawa, on the occasion of their 40th Wedd.- ding Anniversary. Attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Rahm and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wright. Her many Blackstock friends will be glad to know that Mrs. Olga Hill,now a resident of Hills- dale Manor, Oshawa, was able to attend this happy event. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Flett of Bowmanville and Mrs. E. Harris spent last Thursday visiting relatives in Fenelon Falls.
