It is highly unusual for a 16-year-old to win an inter- national championship in the senior division as age sixteen . is the first year of Senior competition. The woman Sue beat in the championship final last- weekend was about 30 years old, and very experienced. "An. international final match like that usually takes five minutes to fight," Sue said. "But I beat her in two seconds." Sue has a brown belt in judo and the woman she beat has a black belt. Sue plans to try for her black belt later this year. Sue is also the Canadian Womans champion as well as a Grade 10 student at Port Perry High School. Scugog township council decided Tuesday night not. to extend its lease with the Club for the property it now occupies on Lake Scugog. The Club had made a presentation to council last week asking that it remain where it is now that its ~ request to move to a site - north of Birdseye Centre has been turned down by: the Federal government. Coun. Reg Rose said there was considerable feeling in Port Perry that the Club should move out of its pre- sent location. Mr. Rose suggested the Township set up a public marina north of the Birdseye Centre and rent out a speci- fic number of spaces to the Yacht Club. ' But when it came time to vote on a md{ion not to renew the lease, only Mr. -Rose voted against it. Coun. Five weeks ago council decided not to renew the contract of the person cur- rently collecting garbage in the entire township of Cart- wright. Bruce Walker presented the petition as well as a report on why he felt collect- ion should continue. ~The petition --asked--that council reconsider its decis- ion: and take appropriate action to continue an accept- able garbage collection ser- In some cases, the petition contained signatures of both husbands and wives from the - same family, as well as othér family members that were of voting age. After listening to the pre- sentation, Council once again postponed any decis- ion and agreed to discuss the situation in full at next Monday's special meeting of council. The clerk was asked to keep the agenda of the special meeting brief so that enough time could be spent on the garbage collection situation to reach a decision. There were 577 signatures from Caesarea and the Lake- shore on the petition and 152 people from Blackstock sign- ed. There were, also, 28 signa- tures from Nestleton, 121 signatures from R R 1 Nest- leton, 63 signatures from R R 1 Blackstock, 84 signatures from R R 2 Blackstock, 27 signatures from R R 1 Janet- ~ville-and -13 signatures from R R 2, Port Perry. Police. said five to six pounds of a substance believ- ed to be marijuana was seized from a vehicle parked at Club Annrene by Const- able Brian Dunham of the Whitby Provincial Police. The seizure took place at about 11:15 p.m. The street value of five pounds of marijuana is esti- mated at $2,200. Charged is William James Taylor, 23, of Indian Valley traffic and was in collision with a vehicle stopped at * the 3rd Concession waiting to enter the Oshawa Road. The car at the stop sign on the 3rd Concession was driven by Mrs. Janet Vernon, 48, of R.R. 2, Port Perry. She was admitted to hospital following the mishap. $3,500.
