Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Taylor attended the wedding of Mr. Brian Ashton of Toronto on Saturday. Oshawa was host to about 100 municipal politicians Friday as the Provin- cial-Municipal Liaison Com- mittee (PMLC) held its monthly meeting at the Holi- day Inn. Mayor Des Newman of Whitby chaired the munici- pal half of the meeting's panel, and Provincial Treas- urer John White presided on behalf of the province. Others taking part on be- half of the Ontario Govern- ment were: Minister of the Environment William New- man, Minister without port- folio Donald Irvine and Mar- garet Scrivener, parliamen- tary secretary to the min- ister of housing. Mr. White reported on his ministry's new Ontario Land Corporation proposal. He said the new corp- oration will operate just like Ontario Hydro 'except it will sell houses instead of power.' AL The main role of the crown corporation, he said, will be to develop new towns in order to decentralize popu- lation growth, and protect farm land. After the new cities of Cedarwood (North Pick- ering) and Nanticoke (near Jarvis) the corporation would concentrate on .the castern and northern portions of the province. Mrs. Irvine reported on the government's county re- structuring policy. The first restructu- red county, Oxford, has just been established by legislat- ion. The warden and clerk treasurer of Oxford attended the meeting during Mr. Ir- vine's presentation. Basically a restructured county is a regional govern- ment, the major difference is that changes are only under- taken at the request of local people, and legislation is designed along lines sugges- ted by local authorities. Rev.McEntyre based his sermon on 1st Timothy the third chapter. A beautiful duet was sung by Mrs. Ross Batten and her father Mr. Alfred Fisher. There was Jr. church for the little ones and these will be contiuning through the summer months. Regular service at 11:30 a.m. and church school at 10 a.m. All are welcome.
