Mr. Jain reported Wednesday that the region was Iree to levy the charges in any way it saw fit. Conservation costs will be levied on the entire region and not on a area rate basis, Regional Council decided Wednesday. An attempt by Councillors Breaugh and Pilkey to in- troduce a combination rate system which would have meant that the municipali- ties benefiting pay more was defeated. Council subsequently passed a motion by Coun. Des. Newman that the rate be levied on a regional basis. Grand- Greenbank Area news The Greenbank Commun- ity offer sympathy to the family of the late Frank Real of Sunderland who passed away very suddenly last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. Jones of Hamilton were week end guestsof Mr. and Mrs. James lanson. Mr. and Mrs. Armour Mc- Millan visited with Mr. and Mrs. R. Haslam of Stouffville on Saturday evening. Several from this commun- ity attended church services at Wick on Sunday. Sorry to report that Mr. Vernon Mount was a patient in Port Perry Hospital last week and is not too well yet at time of writing. Mrs. Paul Diamond spent a few days last week in Agin- court with her daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. Don Steven. Mr. and Mrs. Harlam Clarke of Prince Albert were guests of Mrs. Myrtle Thom- as one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Bur- rows of Cambridge visited for a day or two at the E. Clements home last week. Mrs. Robert Leask, Mrs. E. Tait and Mr. Wm. Carnegie have just returned from a holiday in Holland Mich. and other points of interest. Mrs. George Beaton at- tended a shower for Miss Jane Beaton of Oshawa re- cently. Mr. and Mrs. H. Howsam and family and Mr. and Mrs. E. Clements had dinner with Lloyd and Isabel Somerville on Sunday. parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Leroux of Cannington did the baby-sitting job. The Lawrence Nicholls family took a chance on the weather and went camping at Rice Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nobbs attended the wedding of a nephew in the Kingdom Hall - at Fenelon Falls on Saturday. Incoming visitors were mostly the regulars; - the Dane Coxworth family of Uxbridge and the Tobins, the Ron Wanamaker family of Oshawa and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wanamaker of Toronto at the B. Wanamakers. Not so well known are Mr. and Mrs. John Martino of Willowdale who visited Mrs. Phyllis Wray. At the U.C.W. auction on Saturday afternoon, 246 items (some could be classed as junk) changed hands. A holiday week-end kept the number of buyers rather small but the ladies "Wi%¢' about $400 better off at night. The lady members of the Newman and Lutteral families were joined by about a dozen local ladies. (All old friends of Mrs. McNeil). at a ~ shower for Bonnie Lutteral of Barrie (Mrs. McNeil's grand-daughter). This event took place on Saturday night at the Newman home and all enjoyed a pleasant evening. Miss Lutteral's marriage will take, place on June 1. Sunday services were uneventful except for young Scott Branton who dropped his few birthday pennies into the box one by one. Next Sunday at 11 our S.S. Anmiversary will take place with Mr. Heayn of Prince Albert as guest speaker. No. SS. session. For this week U.C.W. members are reminded -- (1) Unit 1 meeting at the Roy Abraham home on Wednes- day at 8 p.m. (2) Unit 2 meeting at the B. Wanama- ker home at 8 p.m. on Thurs- day. (Note change of date). (3) Hospital Spring Fair on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. If youhave a donation of baking, please leave it at the store during the forenoon. We aren't sure if we will be able to survive Saturday, June 1 with "Canoe the Nonquon", 4H Achievement Day at Latcham Centre start- ing at 9:30, the Don Hunter sale at 12 noon and the Rutherford horse show a little later. Sunday June 2 -- Nothing at Seagrave. It is the day of Greenbank Anniversary.
