Though, we are 3,000 miles away we have met people here from Port that we haven't seen for 10 years (school mates). It sure is nice to have familiar faces around. This was made possible through your news- paper. Keep "up the good work staff. Thank you. Mrs. H.D. Obstfeld Yellowknife, NW.T. Mrs. Donald Milne advised that she knew of the book "Envi- rons of Scugog'. I believe Leslie Frost, wrote several articles on that subject. I would appreciate obtain- ing a copy of this history. I have the latest copy of the history of Ontario County, also one of the Village of Brougham (recent) and a copy of the history of Pick- ering Township. My maternal grand- parents came from Devon, England and grandfather worked for some years on a farm south of Utica. He also worked at an old mill opera- ted by the Beare family, one mile south of Green- bank. Later he worked on the Bedford farm on the ridges. Dr. Patterson's home is on this farm. I would appreciate hear- ing if you know of an avail- able copy and I will for- ward a cheque for the amount. [I am well known in Port Perry having attended Ma- sonic, Oddfellows and Rebekah lodges there. Thanking you, Yours truly, W. The committee in charge was Henrietta Jack- son, Doreen Kendal, Jean- ette Ross and Jerry Lang- ille and had arranged an Irish sing-song along with June Hill. It was a great success, "June" looked lovely, and had such a way of leading with her own accordion that she made us do our very best. Old songs were sung, mostly Irish, that were dear to all, and once June and committee sang together. When the singing was fin- ished the Kinettes served refreshments -- so good and so welcome. At the very last ot the Joyous time, lucky numbers were drawn, and an extra bit of kindness shown when the winners opened their useful gifts. The residents of the Home were honoured to have Rev- erend Brawn take his usual Tuesday evening service, with Mrs. Brawn as pianist. meeting was opened The CALL US FOR SHINGLES FREE ESTIMATES on installation of SIDING (Vinyl, Alum., Wood) EAVESTROUGHING with a prayer and a hymn. The scripture then read by the minister was from the Book of Luke, Chapter 20, two verses 1 -- 13 and dealt with the "Preparation for the Last Supper," which he then discussed, mentioning the fact that when Peter and John went to the city, they would meet a man bearing a pitcher of water which was unusual, for the women always carried" the water. They easily found him and followed him to the house where the Passover was to be held: the large upper room fur- nished and there Peter and John carried out instruc- tions and prepared the Last Supper. Then Reverend Brawn announced Hymn No. 187, a Chatawgua Hymn -- (re- member the times when Port Perry had the Chat- augua tents here in the park which is now the proper- ty of the Masonic Lodge -- and the wonderful concerts and lectures they presen- ted.)
