14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, March 27,1974 Bantams eliminated in OHMA semi-finals Bantams Lose In Overtime Port Perry Bantams were climmated in OMHA Semi Finals by Sundridge in fast hard fought game by a 7 - 5 score after 10 minutes of overtime. For most of the game, Port Perry carried .the play to Sundridge and had more good scoring chances but. Sundridge's goaler managed to keep the puck out of the net and forced the game into over- time by holding of the Port Perry team in the last few minutes of the thrid period with the game tied 4 - 4. Port Perry opened up a 2 - 0 lead in the first period on goals from Colin Wackett assisted by Rob Evans and Phil Cochrane and Rob Evans from Phil Cochrane. Sundridge tied it up 2 - 2 in the second period. Stu Cochrane put Port Perry ahead 3 2 on a beautiful breakway play pulling the goal and slipping the puck behind him. Larry Elson and Phil Cochrane started the play. Sundridge tied the game 3 - 3 with one second left in the second period. Sundridge went ahead 4 - 3 in the third period. Colin Wackett scored a short handed goal to tie the game 4 - 4 and the game went into overtime. Sundridge scored first in overtime only to have Port Perry's Rob Evans tie the game 5 - 5 assisted by Phil Cochrane and Colin Wac- kett. Sundridge went ahead to stay on 2 more goals at the 5 and 6 mi. mark to*win the game 7 - 5. Charly Durward played well in this game and in fact in this series making several key saves keeping " Port in the game at times. The team failed to contain Sundridge's No. 11 Robbie Rick who was parked in front and around the goal. He alone scored 5 goals in the last game. The Port Perry team can be proud of themselves in that they reached the All Ontario Semi finals and gave Sundridge their first loss of the season and a quite a score in the series. Port Perry will next play in the Toyotal tournament in Agincourt on Saturday, March 30 at 9:15 again Saturday afternoon at 4:30 and again Sunday if they keep going in the Champion- ship series. House League Midgets Emmerson {; Zering 1. Mike Adams had a pair of goals for Emmerson and singles went to McQuade and Harris. Scoring for Zering was Allan Faux with two goals and Blange and Kane with singles. Haines 5: Peels 5. Rob VanCamp scored three times for Peels and Tran scored twice. Randy Knight counted four times for Haines and Tim Ashbridge got one. House League news Novice In the first game of the play-ofs, Gulf downed the U.A.W. by a 4 - 2 margin. Russ Jones and Steve Lee both got a pair for Gulf. Rob Burnett and Jamie Lane scored for UAW. In the other game, Emiels walked over Kinsmen by a 5 1 defeat. Chris Martens and Mark Goreski both got a pair while Paul Goreski got the other for Emiel's. Jeff Johnson did the lone scoring for the purple people. March 23rd Emiel's came back to win after the Kinsmen's Jerry Jackman had scored with only 25 seconds to play with 6 - 1. Chris Martens had a big game with 5 goals and Stan Glass got the other Gulf came back after being down 5 - 2 to win 6 - 5 over U.A.W. Steve Lee and Russ Jones both picked up hat tricks for Gulf while Jamie Lane got a hat trick and Rob Burnett getting a pair for UAW. Atom Lake Scugog Lumber and Keith Real Estate battled to a 1 - 1 draw. Mike Farrel counted for the Lakers and Shawn O'Donnel counted for Keith. The Lions Club came back from losing last week to down White Feather Farms 3 - 0. Kevin Ling got a pair for the Lions while Neil Williams got the other. Bruce Arculus got the shut - out. | Skat-A-Thon to be held in aid of Perry Winkle Fund The Port Perry Figure Skating Club has greganized in aid of the Perry Winkle Fund, an Annual Skate- A-Thon to be held this year on Tuesday, 'April 9th from 4 to 8 pm. for all its members. Skating club members will be looking for sponsors, and it is hoped that everyone will be gene- rous. All monies raised will #o to support the Perry Winkle Fund. The winner or winners will receive a trophy donated by Mr. Howard Hall who is one of the administrators of the fund.
