Port Perry de- feated Pickering and the highly ranked Barrie East- view club both very con- vincingly to advance to the finals. Port Perry showed tremendous balance and speed in winning all"three games. Exceptional per: formances were turned in by Phil Cochrane and Larry Elson, the later voted by the referees as the tourna-- ment's Most Valuable Play- er. Port Perry trailed by 10 points at the half but rallied and finished in a flurry winning by ten. The calibre of ball for midget teams was exceptional, as good as would be seen any- where. Vietorious Coach Roy Clarke called the final "a total team victory." Uxbridge Tigers rallied their spirits after an open: ing round loss to Oshawa Eastdale to defeat Brock and then Oshawa Dopevan 63-3 in the consolation championship. Guard Greg Gates had an outstanding game leading the Tigers with 23 points against Do- nevan, while strong perfor- + mances were also turned in by Drew Clelland and Jerry Noble. The senior exhibition con- 985-2211 Port Perry test between St. Basil's Bar- ons of Toronto and Barrie Eastview proved to be a real gem, providing quality basketball all-the way. St. Basil's eked out a 56-53 victory scoring foul shots at the final buzzer. Barrie trailed by twelve at the half but came back to with- in 2 points with 28 seconds remaining and possession of the ball. A costly turnover eost them a chance to tie or win but regardless of the out- come the fans were treated to some really good ball. Both of these teams are entered in Orillia's Black Ball tourhament next Satur- day and are scheduled ot do battle again. Both are strong championship con- tenders.
