Council learned February 6 that Mr. Beath was provi- ded with a now car when Queens Park appointed him age Ils representative on council last fall, and that since then an additional amount has been spent for new tires. His topic concerned the problems of developing ciga- rettes free from tars and nicotine. 10 YEARS AGO Thursday, February 13, 1961 Catherine Jefford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Jefford, Port Perry, became the llth local girl to receive the gold cord, the highest award within the Girl Guide movement. Howard Hall received a medal for his long time service with Scouting in Port Perry. Mr. Hall has been a scout leader for the last 12 years. Congratulations to Mildred Martyn, Prince Albert, who successfully passed her junior student nurse examinations at Wellesly Hospital, Toronto. Mrs. Vic Stouffer, Mrs. Louise Patterson and Mrs. Sam Cawker attended a rug hooking course at Vineland on Tuesday. The Ontario County Junior Farmer debating team de- feated Northumberland County in the fourth round of the provincial series and will now advance to the finals against the Western Ontario winners.
