Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mac- Donald of Toronto were at their cottage on Saturday and called to visit Mr. and Christian High Durham Christian High School, an inter-denominat- ional secondary school which has operated out of rented space and portables for more than three years, is planning a new permanent structure. The Bowmanville planning board is holding a public meeting in the council chamber tonight to get opinion on plans to build a 7,500 square foot core on Scugog Road, about a quarter mile from the pre- sent temporary quarters at Knox Christian Public School. There will be four class- rooms and still some port- ables until further building takes place. DCHS opened in 1969, said Principal Ren. Siebenga, and since then has used two classrooms and five port- ables at Knox. Enrolment now totals 108 in Grade 9 to 12. Students are drawn from Oshawa to Co- bourg to Lindsay and sup- port comes from about 200 members of five-chapter or- ganization who subscribe to the school's constitution. "We are not affiliated now with any particular denom- ination." said the principal, although in its beginnings, the school was supported by the Christian Reformed Church. Enrolment is still about 70 to 75 percent of Dutch ances- try he said, but only two of the seven teachers are Re- formed Church. Others in- clude a Lutheran and a Presbyterian. A WAY OF LIFE "We believe religion is a matter of a way of life," said Mr. Siebenga, explaining the school's philosophy. "Either you are a Christian in every- thing you do, or you are something else. Education, too, is a part of life. "We believe every subject should be taught from a Christian point of view," he said. At present there are Bible classes every day but event- ually, he said, the school could reach the point of having these discontinued. Tuition fees support the school which is full accred-- ited by Education. the Ministry of ad I A el UL = = Oh =] -- So = = AA ll = COD CLASSIFIED ADS GET RESULTS =] ed =A a Ld = = TWh C= SN = = PORT PERRY STAR-Wednesday, Dec. 5th, 1973-15 and area news Mrs. Christie.
