30 - PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, Sept. 26th, 1973 Bourgeois - Murphy On a lovely summer afternoon, August 11, 1973, Charlene Bourgeois became the bride of William Murphy in a ceremony at the Port Perry United Church. Char- lene's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bourgeois, were present to give their blessing on the marriage. Bill's mother, Mrs. Leo Murphy of Peterborough, was also there to share the happiness of the bridal couple. A solemn marriage service was conducted by the Rev. H.A. Mellow of Oshawa. The wedding music was played by Charlene's brother, David. David chose the piano, which he played eloguently, his music affirming the joy of. the occasion. While the guests were assembling, David provided a medley of modern love themes. For the bride's processional, he played Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring. Accompanied by her bridesmaids and escorted by her father, Charlene was serene and beautiful, her dark hair falling in striking contrast to her white gown, a cloud of nylon chiffon. An Empire waist, long sleeves with ruffles, and a Juliet cap were details worn with grace by this lovely bride. She carried a white Bible with a cascade of white and yellow roses. The bridesmaids, in sum- mery dotted Swiss, wore the . Lou Bourgeois soft colours of an old- fashioned garden. Miss Brenda Geer, the maid of honour, wore green. Like the bride's gown, Brenda's dress was cut on Empire lines, the long trimmed with ruffles, Miss Mary Nelson in blue, Miss Susan Cochrane in yellow, and junior bridesmaid Mary in pink formed a summer bouquet of similar gossamere gowns. Assisting the groom were Mr. Peter Krug of Ottawa as best man; Mr. Robert Kennedy of Toronto as head usher; Mr. Malcolm Holland and Mr. Larry Jones of Peterborough as ushers. After the ceremony the guests were welcomed at the home of the bride's parents on Simcoe Street. Here they gathered in the garden where groups of tables and chairs were arranged among the trees and flowers. A refreshing punch was served while the photo- grapher, a friend of the groom, took pictures of the wedding party on the lawn. The bride's mother and father moved among their guests with a welcome for everyone. Mrs. Bourgeois wore a gown of dainty white eyelet over pink satin. Mrs. Murphy, Bill's mother, was a striking figure in blue lace. The men of the wedding party, all stylishly turned out in tuxedos of midnight blue with pale blue sleeves ruffled shirts, added a festive air. a Throughout the afternoon which remained warm, bright, and breezy, Jon Bourgeois, the bride's younger brother, presided over the guest book. Many wandered around admiring the display of summer flowers, the pride and joy of their gardener host. A special delight were the pool and fountain, also the handiwork of the bride's father, provi- ding a refreshing sight on a warm day. In the late afternoon a buffet supper, prepared by the bride's mother, was served on the lawn. Assisting the hostess were several of her close friends who wanted to help with Charlene's "old-fashioned" wedding. The bridal party were served at their table in the field-stone patio sur- rounded by a splendid show of garden flowers. Master of Ceremonés, Ron Haley, a friend of the groom's family, proposed the toasts. As daylight faded, colou- red patio lights and a full moon in the sky created an atmosphere of tantalizing beauty.
