The Chamber of Kayvans changes hands Kay Vandemark has sold Port Perry's only ladies wear speciality shop to Miriam Price of Port Perry. The changeover takes place this weekend and will result in the store closing for a few days as the new owner makes a few minor adjust- ments and checks inventory. Mrs. Vandemark worked in the ladies wear depart- ment of a large department store chain in Toronto 20 years ago, and spent her vacations at the cottage near Port Perry. Like so many people, she fell in love with the town and decided to move here. Her first attempt to settle in the area resulted in an unsuccessful chicken farm. In 1953 she rented the shop on Queen Street next to the public library which still houses the business and opened Port Perry's first store specializing in ladies clothing. She eventually built the business to the point where three employees were required featuring Cars $1.00 Commerce will meet "Vini's Mini's" about 3 p.m. The chamber held a prac- tice last week and have a good squad ready to go. Fs REP BELLA, Jy ALES » RMT ' fi fay ee ' Seniors win opener On Friday, Sept. 21, Port Perry's Senior Remen played their first football game of the season and came out winners by a score of 16 - 14 over Pickering Trojans. Pickering opened the scoring quickly in the first quarter by moving effici- ently after the opening kickoff. Port Perry was not to be trod upon though, as they immeidately moved back upfield and scored on a pass from Shawn Lackie to Ken Davidson. The extra point was blocked thus making the score 7 - 6 in favour of Pickering. A good defensive battle was waged until midway through the second quarter when Port conceded a single point on a punt deep into the end zone. This made the score 8 - 6 in favour of Pickering. The half ended with no more scoring. Port Perry came out full of fire in the second half and moved the ball well. A field goal by Scott Howsam ended the first drive, making the score 9 - 8 in favour of Port. The defense tightened up in the second half and forced a fumble early on. The convert was good and the score read 16 - 8. Pickering moved back late in the fourth quarter and scored on a pass. \ The convert failed, though making the score 16 - 14. Port's defence showed a strong performence in the fourth quarter stopping Pickering on the one yard line three times in a row! Considering the team only practiced for two weeks it played well together and tightened up when the going got rough. Much credit should go to the coaches. Mr. Rodway and Mr. Brandon. Port Perry's next home game is Friday, 28th of September against Ander- son Street of Whitby so let's get out and support the team.
