The hamlet now known as Seagrave was originally called Nonquon because it was the location of the first bridge over the Nonquon River. When a post office came to the hamlet its name was changed to Sonja, but that hamlet, post office and all, moved a few miles north into Mariposa. When a new post office was established it was named Seagrave. On January 1, the name changes again as it becomes part of the Town- ship of Scugog.
