The program---involving the measurement of water clarity and algae content has met with such success that the number of lakes tested jumped from the 1971 figure of 17 to almost 125 in 1973. Last year, nearly 60 lakes were tested. The Ministry supplies equipment to cottagers, per- manent shoreline residents, cottagers' and ratepayer associations so that water clarity and chlorophyl a readings may be taken over an extended period of time. Secchi disc and chlorophyl samples are forwarded to the Ministry for analysis and interpretation. Test results, with recommenda- tions for the future, are then issued in a Ministry report.
