a ARTHUR CATTON (continued) with Jerry Jackman. 'This is going to be a full time job," he told the STAR. He said that in addition to the responsibilities on the local council and regular atten- dance at regional council the people elected will have to be prepared to sit on a number of committees, and that will take all of man's time if the job is to be done right. "I hope these guys realize that," he said of the other candidates. Mr. Catton is serving his first year as reeve. "I think I have contributed to the area as reeve, and. I would like to continue making my experience available," he said. ARMOUR McMILLAN While announcing his in- tention to run in opposition to Art Catton, Armour Mec- Millan left his options open. He will not guarantee that he will not change his mind and seek a different post when nomination day rolls around next September but he says, "At this time I am considering leaving my name as a candidate for the regional council." The new municipality, to be called the Township of Scugog, will have a seven member council. The mayor and Regional councillor will sit on both the township council and the regional * Jackman-Malcolm for Mayor council.. The other five men will serve only at the local level. The new council will meet as a steering committee beginning October 15, and will officially take office on January 1, 1974. He said the cycles are tearing up the lawn, which has always been kept in good condition by a neighbour. A closer watch will be kept on the area. Application Fees Not Returnable The fees paid to planning board by applicants are not returnable, council decided. Council had been asked to consider returning part of the fee to an applicant whose proposal had been turned down flat. It was pointed out that the fees are designed to prevent people from taking up the boards time with nuisance proposals, and returning the fees to unsuccessful appli- cants would defeat the whole purpose. "But this case is a little different," suggested Neil Hunter. "Every case is a little different," pointed out Reg Foster. Sub Divisions Council accepted the recommendation of plann- ing board that approval in principal be given to a proposed residential subdi- vsion of Charles Santos to be built off the Oshawa Road near Prince Albert. Council indicated its in- tention to eventually take over the well and water supply system in a resi- dential sub division Art Wagg Bros. Dear Sir: As we were trimming the geraniums around my son's grave in Pine Grove Cemetery (Ralph Fear), I was informed that this would be the last year that flowers would be allowed as they caused so much diffi- culty in operating the lawn mowers. Now if this is the new rule, I think it would be the only cemetery in Ontario where this could happen. Mount Lawn in Oshawa has flowers. Park Lawn where my relatives are buried in Toronto has flowers and shrubs besides. The excuse seemed to be that there was too much having to go around such places.. I contemplated buying a couple of plots there but not if flowers are out and workmen are able to oper- ate lawn mowers right over memorial stones to save them a turn to the right or left and doing what they are payed to do. No. way! Sincerely, Albert Fear take all the Mariposa land south of the Nonquon River. Mariposa suggested it take all the Reach land north of the 12th concession.
