22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 20, 1973 Seagrave News Apparently this corres- pondent should improve her handwriting. In last week's column we wrote "Our tra- vellers . . etc but it came out as air travellers . We just can't imagine Mrs. Fishley arriving home from Oshawa by air. She did arrive however and so did Mrs. McNeil who has been on an extended holiday in New York and elsewhere. The "*Sold" sign appeared on the Don Hunter farm on Friday afternoon. The buyer is Mr. Edw. Wilson of Port Perry. We don't need to start planning a farewell as the Hunters are not leaving soon and probably not at all. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter had Sunday supper with Mr. and Mrs. Pollard and family in Stouffville. Mrs. Reta Boe enter- tained Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Boe of Beaveton and Mrs. Fleta Sleep of Midland on Sunday afternoon and for evening dinner. The Bruce Carr family were at the home church in Eden on Sunday attending the anniversary there. Also on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Venner entertained two of their families -- Mr. and Mrs. Newman and daughter of Omemee and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fisher and sons from near home. Callers at the B. Wana- maker home on Saturday night were Mrs. Eva Doupe of Seattle, Wash. Dr. and Mrs. David Doupe of Erie, Penn and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Oyler of Prince Albert. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Brinkman, Charles and Judy of Port Perry spent Saturday evening at the Belair home. Mr. Roy Scott had another short stay in hospi- tal last week but came home again on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cook- son are all smiles again. They have a new grand- daughter Anne Marie child of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cook- son. The bus trip notion is getting started again. Mrs. Walter King, Mrs. A. Bruce and Miss Laura Mark are off to the east coast at present. Some of our people with Presbyterian backgrounds attended the annual devo- " tion service at McNeil cem- etery, Wick on Sunday afternoon. Flowers in church on Sunday were in memory of the late Mrs. Jos. Nobbs whose death we mentioned last week. This item reminds us that in today's paper we noted the death of Rev. Herb S. Cobb at Sunnybrook Hospi- tal on Sunday. Only the older residents will remem- ber Mr. Cobb. The Sunday church ser- vice was conducted by the H.C. group with their pres- ident Bob Bruce acting as leader and Bob Barr as speaker. Others taking part were Darly Newman, Earle and Diane Barr, Joyce Bruce, Calvin Nicholls and Larry Short. These folks seemed smarter than the oldsters so the whole ser- vice lasted only half. an hour. It was a good try. Between church and S.S. a meeting was held to appoint a committee which in co-opeation with others from Greenbank and Pinedale would select a minister to replace Rev. Critch. No-one seemed to want that responsibility and several declined the honour. However, it ended with Mr. Newman, Mrs. Nobbs and Bob Bruce consenting to act. - At SS. Mrs. B. Wana- maker and Mrs. Nobbs got the birthday pins. Next Sunday, June 24 -- regular services with Mr. Critch in charge. The bes- sion are planning the ser- vice for July 1. Rev. Critch will make his last appearance on July 8 then the board of Stewards will take over for July 15th.
