Mayor Buck was told that the chief gets $28,000 a year or $560 a week and it was explained that he is not getting any more than other department heads in the regional government. Legislation providing for regional government in Durham and Hamilton Wentworth was introduced in the Ontario Legislature June 13. The bill regarding Dur- ham provides for eight area municipalities including Oshawa, Ajax, Newcastle, Pickering, Whitby, Brock and Scugog townships and the township of Uxbridge. "The mayors of each of the eight area municipalities will become members of the 31 member regional council when the district is formed January 1, 1973. Oshawa will have 10 addi- tional members, Newcastle Pickering, Whitby, Brock and Scugog townships and the township of Uxbridge.
