Ashton on Wed- nesday evening, May 2nd with eighteen ladies present. The meeting was called to order by the singing of the hymn, "Great God on You we Call." The scripture was read by Mrs. D. Ashton taken from Matthew 13: 1-9, 31 & 32, followed with a meditation 'Faith Seeds' as taken from the April issue of the Glad Tidings. Prayer by Mrs. Wm. Hopkins. The offering was received and dedicated. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A word of thanks was expressed to all who helped in any way with the Easter Thank -offering. The ladies were reminded of the Semi-annual to be held in Uxbridge in June. Mrs. Lindsay Death and Mrs. Clarence Bryant offered to work at Fairview this month. Following the business, Mrs. Russell Batten took charge of the study, continuing on our study of India. She spoke on the "New Horizons from Indian's Women." The Burns Presbyterian Church was a landmark in Ashburn for many years until it burned down in 1967. It has been replaced by a new church. Asburn was considered an important trading centre in the 1850s and 1860s, but with the coming of the automo: bile, it has remained a quiet hamlet since the turn of the century. Bethesda-Reach WI annual meeting by Jean Jeffery The annual meeting of Bethesda - Reach W.I. was held at the home of Mrs. Morley Parish, April 25. President Mrs. Ted Croxall called the meeting to order. The Institute Ode was sung. The Mary Stewart Collect repeated in unison. Mrs. Croxall read the b eautiful poem, '"Make me grow, calm, serene and gentle". This was found at Black Creek village printed beautifully as it was many years ago. The minutes were read members rejoined by paying the annual membership fee. Pennies for friendship col- lected, correspondence read and forms for short courses filled in.
