$ " International Plowing Match to be held in Ontario County The Ontario Plowmen's Association Executive, the Canadian Plowing Council, and the Local Committee for the 1975 International Plowing Match have an- nounced that Ontario County and neighbouring munici- palities will host the Inter- national Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Demon- stration in September, 1975. Along with this event will be held the Canadian Plowing Match and the World Plowing Contest. The site, that has been chosen, is located south of Port Perry in the Town of Whitby and East Whitby Township directly east of Brooklin between Thickson Road and Simcoe Street. Activities will be centred on teh Ransom, Robson and neighbouring farms. It was felt that this is an ideal - location, being well serviced by good roads and close to accommodation and essen- tial services such as hydro and telephone. A total of 800 acres will be used for this event, with half of this amount for the various plowing classes, a the remainder for pau demonstrations, tented city and practice plowing. The tented city, alone, will occupy as much as 100 acres. The Farm Machinery Demonstration believed to be among the largest of its kind anywhere will feature a display of modern farm equipment by many of the major machinery com- panies. This, along with a great variety of exhibits of agricultural and consumer items, will appeal to urban and rural visitors alike. Several hundred overseas visitors are expected to accompany the contestants from approximately 30 countries, as well as two to three hundred thousand visitors from across Canada and the United States. This will be the third time that Ontario County has been host to the Ontario Inter- national Plowing Match since its organization in 1911. Int 1916, the Match was held onthe R.J. Fleming Farm at Pickering, and in 1956 on the Heber Down Farm at Brooklin. When the people of this County decided to invite the INternational here ,again, an invitation was extended to the World Plowing Organization to hold the 1975 World Champion- ship Contest at the same Scugog Women's Inst. On February 21st, Scugog Island Women's Institute met at the Township Hall with 11 members present.
