i " LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Difference of Dear Sir: 'Re the article "As I See It" in the February 28th edition, as self-professed agnostics we take great offence at Mr. Arnold's. blatant statement that 'kids™ are either atheist _ or Christian, with little or no variance. It sounds, also, as if Mr. Arnold is offended that any young person today happens to be atheistic in his views. People, regardless of age, are entitled to their own beliefs and the tax-payers will, one way or another have to subsidize education: thus there was no justifica- tion" for this unnecessary allusion. The Thursday Evening Guild met at the home of Mrs. Neil Bailey on Feb- ruary 22 with 15 ladies present. Our Devotional was led by Elaine Bailey with everyone singing the hymns. It was decided to save Canada Packers Labels again. Mrs. Lomex offered to be in charge of them. We voted to purchase adult . choir gowns in burgundy with white collars. An invitation was extended for the World's Day of Prayer to be held in the Nestleton Presbyterian Church on March There is to be a Spring Bale packed in March and we are asked to include household articles. The Local Deanary Meet- ing is to be on April 25 starting at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Church. Elaine served delicious desserts with tea and coffee. Our March meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Lawrence McLaughlin. Happy Hour for the Public School boys and girls continues to be held at the Community Hall in Caesa- rea. By the end of February the total amount collected for the Canadian heart Founda- tion by CHS students was $802.15. This is about $75.00 more than last year's total. . On Friday CHS's two hockey teams (a girls' team and a boys' team) had a practice in preparation for taking on Millbrook students on Friday, March 9, when we are invited to participate in various events at their "annual Winter Carnival. Although we are all looking forward to the Mid-winter break, there is a slight obstacle in the interval in the form of second term exams which will be held the week of March 12. Is it specifically Protestant or specifically (Roman) Catholic with no other theological shadings to act as intermediaries? And who also is to say that because you are a Christian in Port Perry your children must go to school in Oshawa? The whole issue is not really as crucial as Mr.- Arnold has depicted it. In a village the size of Port Perry it simply is not economically feasible to erect schools to cater to people's religious trainings. Pure logic alone tells us this. But, after all, if religion and education are so strangely integrated in some people's minds, then, surely, a little bit of inconvenience in terms of transportation wouldn't be a terribly great sacrifice. So why bother the rest of the populace (regardless of their religious creeds) with these one-sided complaints and with Mr. Arnold's somewhat unknowledgeable 'clap trap' and his equally trivial column?
