Rr Tay un J TRINH --e L} 12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1973 Port Perry Skaters win medals Port Perry Figure Skating Club picked up six medals for a total of 27 points to win third place, behind Ajax and Oshawa, in the Pine Ridge Inter Club figure skating competition over. the week- end. Twelve clubs took part in the all day competition "at Ajax Arena last Sunday. Port Perry won all medals in Interpretive B skating. Sharon Wallace came first for a gold. Donna Jackson got the silver for finishing LARRY HOPKINS earned two medals for the Port Perry Figure Skating Club at Ajax last Sunday. He came second in the Preliminary: boys event and third in the Preliminary dance competition. His dance partner was Linda Brunton. EN second. The bronze went to Julie Brignall for her third place finish. In the preliminary boys competition Larry Hopkins earned a silver medal for Port, finishing behind Kevin Peter of Oshawa. : Joanne Ingalls of Cobourg won the Pre-Juvenile girls B catagory, with Port Perry's Gina Brinkman coming sec- ond and Wendy Watson of Orono third. The preliminary dance was won by Brian Evans and Susan Yerema of Sunder- land. Jack Langenhuizen and Jane George of Ux- bridge came second and Port Perry's Larry Hoskins and Linaa Brunton finished third. Other results: Pre+Preliminary Girls - 1st Corrine Meloche of Sun- derland, 2nd Jacqueline Yerema of Sunderland, 3rd Lisa Underhill of Oshawa. Pre Preliminary Boys. - only two skaters competed so orty one medal was awarded. It went to Jack Langehuizen of Uxbridge. Preliminary Girls A - Ist Anna Marie Bejkowsky of Oshawa, 2nd Susan Bukata of Oshawa, 3rd Smantha Howard of Uxbridge. Pre-Juvinle Girls A - 1st Susan Derby of Oshawa, 2nd Michelle Carr of Port Hope, 3rd Susan Canning of Osh- awa. " Juvenile Girls A - 1st Katherine Woodhead of Osh- awa, 2nd Julie Wight of Bowmanville, 3rd Mary Frances Lloyd of Oshawa. Juvenile Girls B - 1st Christine Smith of Oshawa, 2nd Debbie Cook of Ajax, 3rd Jane Emslie of Uxbridge. Juvenile Boys - Ist Ray Collins of Oshawa, 2nd Jim Sorochan of Oshawa, 3rd Brett Rowland of Ajax. Pre Novice Girls A - 1st Janet Broder of Oshawa, 2nd Christine Collins of Ajax, 3rd Laurie Ann Peters of Oshawa. Pre Novice Girls B - 1st Novi Saturday, Feb. 24, Mal- mont Farms Novice tra- velled to Keene to part- icipate in the annual Oton- abee Novice Tournament. Their first encounter was with Lakefield which re- sulted in a 6 - 2 victory for Port Perry. Scoring for Port were Charlie Brown with a hat trick, Jim Kane with two and Tim Parker with a single. Credit for assists go to Todd Wilbur with three, George Burnett and Tim Thompson with two each, Tim Parker and Mike Tobin with singles. For the second game Port met the host club Keene. This game proved to be one of the most challenging games of the day with the score tied 1 - 1 going into the third period. The Green- shirts knew it was do or die and came on strong to score two goals to make it a 3 - 1 vicotny: Scoring for Port were George Burnett from Carl Dunward, Tim Thomp- son from Jim Kane and Mike Tobin, and Jim Kane from Tim Thompson and George . Burnett. Port's opposition for the championship game was Little Britain. By now the Port boys were flying high and determined. to win the championship. Bronze Interpretive Girls A - Christine Collins of Ajax, Jane George of 'Uxbridge, win Keene opened the scoring but Port bounced back with five unanswered goals to win the championship 5 - 1. Scoring for Port were Jim Kane with two, Greg Tully, Tim Thompson and Todd Wilbur with singles. Credit for assists go to Mike Tobin with three, Tim Thompson with two, Carl Durward, Darrin Jobb, and Jim Kane with one each. Robert Franssen and Brian Mikkelsen shared their efforts in allowing only four goals in three games. Receiving individual trophies for winning the championship were Robert Cindy Collins of Oshawa. Juvenile Dance - Jimmy Blackburn of Port Hope and Caroline Berkhof of Oshawa, Ray Collins and Cindy Coul- son of Oshawa, Steven Perley and Julie Raycraft of Ajax. ' Altogether 15 Port Perry skaters competed, trophy Franssen, Carl Durward, Clark Menzies, Darrin Jobb, Tim Parker, George Bur- nett, Charlie Brown, Tim Thompson, Todd Wilbur, Brad Hurst, Mike Tobin, Doug Potts, Jim Kane, Hal Storry, Greg Tully and Brian Mikkelsen. Much of the credit for Port Perry's excellent showing goes to Richard Stevens, Port Perry professional and former Canadian Champion, who trained the local young- sters.
