In the first round, Port Perry got things started when they edged past the Peterboro Canucks 1to0on a goal by Ken Nott and the great goaltending of Denis Symes. The second game saw Colborne defeat Peter- boro U.E. 3 to 1. Cobourg then defeated Orillia 3 to 1; then Barrie defeated Minden 6 to 1. The second round started off in great style as the two Peterboro teams ended up in a 1 - 1 tie. After only 35 seconds of overtime Peter- boro Canucks eliminated the U.E. club on Marion Moore's goal. Port Perry then met Colborne in the Champion- ship round and once again Denis Symes goaltending and Ken Nott's goal gave Port a 1 to 0 victory. The local boys had to work for this win as Colborne were not looking forward to being eliminated. Orillia then advanced to the Consolation Final as they defeated Min- den 3 to 0. The loss eliminated Minden who did well for their first tourna- Local skaters in tournament Fifteen members of the Port Perry Figure Skating Club will compete in the _ Pineridge Inter-club- competition at Ajax this weekend. Altogether there will be 12 clubs with a total of about 130 skaters in the competition. This is an opportunity for some of the younger skaters to display their talents in figures, free style and dance. The Championship game was another real thriller with Cobourg meeting Brians Supertest of Port Perry. Cobourg scored first as Ray Smith was the first player in the tournament to beat Denis Symes. The final three minutes of this game had the fans to their feet as the teams gave all they had to pull out the win. The Port Perry team played the finest Broomball ever seen in this arena but with the calibre of teams on hand they had to remain in contention. Mr. Ken Dowson presented the Championship Plaque and the cheque for fifty dollars to the Cobourg Cap- tain at centre ice. The tournament proved to be a great success with the executive of the Port Perry Broomball Assoc. working hard to make the stay of the teams pleasant while in the village. The next action for the Port teams will be March 3 in Millbrook and March 17 in Colborne. Pt. Perry Flamingos meet Oak Ridges in playoffs Central Ontario Junior C hockey teams paired off for the group best of five quarter finals at a meeting convened in Lindsay Tuesday night. Lindsay Juniors having finished in first place, had the privilege of choosing their opposition for the first round from the fifth to eighth place teams. Their choice were the Sutton Rangers. At the meeting Tuesday night it was also announced that Cobourg in second place will meet Port Hope. Bowmanville in third place will meet Markham. The local boys had no trouble handling Barrie's Eastview High School in the Bantams Lakeshore Champions Port Perry Bantams spon- sored by Beare Motors won the Lakeshore trophy for the second consecutive year on Friday night by defeating West Rouge in the best of three. Only two games were played when Port Perry won both. Port opened their playoff + on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at Port Perry and defeated West Rouge 5 - 0. Goal scorers in the game were Ed Olsen, Larry Elson, Robert Van Camp, Gord Scott and Mark Jobb. On Friday night the local team travelled to . West Rouge and thrashed the host team 9 - 1. Leading scorers were Jim Zoet 33 and Laurie Williams 16. HOUSE LEAGUE Pee Wee In the first Peewee game, Flamingo defeated Tripp Construction by a score of 6 - 4. For Flamingo, Fellows scored a pair, followed with singles by Freeman, Flie- lier, Lee and Geer. Watson with a hat trick and a single by Leach talied for Tripp Con.
