Scugog News| On Wednesday evening of January 10, 15 ladies met at the home of Mrs. Don Gerrow for the "Head" U.C.W. After an opening hymn and prayer, Mrs. Lenore Blue- man read the Scripture selection from Colossians. Mrs. Betty Reader chose a study from 'Devotions and Dialogues for Women." The subject of Serenity of the soul suggested to let us be done with fault finding. In the roll call we were requested to tell a resolution we had made for the New Year or forfeit five cents. Consequently the treasurer captured considerable change. Several appreciation cards and lovely letters were received from Marion Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Arnold, Elizabeth Stick- mann, Stuart Nesbitt, Mrs. Angus Wilkinson on behalf of her mother, Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Elva Martyn, Mrs. Ethel Redman, Mrs. Olive Ferrier, Mrs. Amy Smith, Mr. and Mrs. D. Moore, Mrs. C. Graham and Mrs. Flora Muffitt. The treasurer reported a balance of $258.70 at the end of December. The Hospital Auxiliary sent a thanks for the Christmas Doll Draw Don- ation. We were asked to consider a petition that the maternity ward being closed as such, should be kept open for use of other patients. The U.C.W. received don- ations of money from Scar- CLEAN, SAFE FUEL. We certainly appreciate the help our distant friends give to encourage our work. It was moved that Bonnie Gerrow remain on the Board of Stewards as the U.C.W. representative. Please mark the following dates on your calendar, Executive U.C.W. Meeting Monday evening, January 22 at Bonie Gerrows. May 2nd, the Head U.C.W. will cele- brate its 25th anniversary when we hope to have all former members attend if possible. May 26, possibly cater for a wedding. The afternoon of Sunday, June 3 there will be a dedication service for the recently completed monument in the Head cemetery. Invitations will be sent out. June 16 catering posibly for another wedding. In place of a euchre at the Hall in February, we are trying something different and asking all the members to co-operate. Some time before the March meeting each lady will be hostess in her home to eight people for 2 tables of euchre or any other game. She will charge each guest 50 cents making $4 and conduct the evening as she wishes. In lieu of such an evening of entertainment she may make a donation. Marie Clark read a thoughtful poem on "Faith". Grace also conducted a good contest "on parts of the human body with 'Reta Reader scoring most correct answers. The "Head" U.C.W. will look after the Hospital Tuck Shop January 28 to February 3. On Sunday, there was a fine attendance at "Grace" Church when Rev. Brown was present to help Rev. Pogue with the Communion Service. Mr. Pogue's message to the children was introduced by a story of a Selfish Gull who was watched by 2 children as he tried to force his companions away from food he wished for himself and really losing out for his own share. The conclusion was that a selfish child loses more than he gains. The adult study was based on the question, "What is a Christian?" We believe in a living God in place of a set of rules. Men will find their lives changed because of their faith. Don't forget the Women's Institute to-night and the roll call as requested last week. Last week, the "Head" U.C.W. received many used stamps. There must be many more since the Christmas season. We usually send them away to help the Leper Missions, Canada Packer labels are still acceptable too. Committees appointed Committees formed at the meeting were as follows; Roads Committee, Gerry Taylor and Michael Van Strien; Finance Committee, Sheldon Smith and Helen Redman; Property mittee, Michael Van Strien and Sheldon Smith; and Welfare Committee, Helen Redman and Gerry Taylor. The entire council will be members on the Committee for regional government.
