There will be a congre- gational meeting at 'Grace church Tuesday evening January 16 at 8 p.m. Will the secretaries and treasurers all have their reports ready for Rev. Pogue by Sunday. January 14. You are re- quested to have them typed or written with a dark pencil not pen. On Sunday, Rev. Pogue told the children how he had watched a seeing eye dog lead a blind lady on and off buses and across streets. The lady was able to trust her life to the leadership of her dog who could see the way. So the children should learn to trust "od complete- ly to lead them. - To the adults he explained that January 6 was Epip- hany Day, a day to com- memorate the coming of the Wise Men to seek the new born king, Jesus. King Herod who held his throne only because Roman power put him there was filled with anxiety and fear that he might lose his postion. When the Wise Men did not report to him he decided this child must be destroyed by killing all children under 2 years. But Jesus escaped when his family took him to Egypt for 3 or 4 years. Thus the result of fear was sin. Jesus later condemned fear not sin. To-day is known as an age of anxiety and fear for many things. The answer to "'fear" is 'love'. Those who have learned to care for others are able to overcome many of their anxieties. It was announced that Jan. 17 the ladies of "Grace" U.C.W. would serve a hot luncheon from 12 until 1 p.m. On February 14, we hear they hope to conduct a euchre. We wish to extend our sympathy to the family of Carl Graham who suddenly passed away before Christ- mas. Our thoughts were with them for many months as he endured discomfort and uncertainty. Our sympathy also goes to Mrs. Morven Hughes and her husband of Portview whose father Mr. Fox passed away on Christmas Day in New Glasgow, N.S. Mrs. Hughes flew to N.S. for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Pogue have gone to B.C. to attend the wedding of their son, Roy. Mr. and Mrs. John Sweet- man and family were happy to have visitors from San Francisco between Christ- mas and New Years. John's cousin Stuart Sweetman whose father James Allan Sweetman had been raised on Scugog was interested and often wondered about his father's boyhood home and relatives, so he and his wife decided to take their chances with the Christmas fogs and fly to Detroit and then proceed east." Incidentally, they missed the miscalcu- lated date for the great earth quake. But they say the have tremors all the time. Their impressions of Scu- gog were very favourable and especially the clean, clear ane and sample of Can. winter. They managed to meet many of the relatives around Port Perry and Toronto. ~:Bonnie and Don Gerrow have returned home from their vacation in Sask.
