DONALD & THOMAS Barristers, Solicitors Box 131 PORT PERRY, Ontario Solicitors for the above 3--Jan.24 Estate -- Obituary -- Thomas Carlton Graham After several months of' undetermined illness and discomfort Thomas Carlton Graham suddenly passed away Sunday, Dec. 24 at the Port Perry Community Nur- sing Home. He was the youngest son born on Scugog Island, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos Graham, July 21, 1900. The Graham family had come to Scugog about 1875 and with their 5 sons spent most of their lives on the acquired farms. Carl farmed at the "Head" and "Foot" and had a special liking Tor horses. In 1948, he married Mable Fields also of Scugog. They raised a son and daughter who found their future else- where. Carl was quiet but quick witted and enjoyed jovial conversation. After selling the farm Carl and Mable moved to Prince Albert where they lived 7 years. During this time Carl still did light work on a farm He was predeceased by brothers, Lorne, Russell, Stuart and Charles. He is survived by his wife Mable, son Vernon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, daughter Dorothy (Mrs. Hugh Hargraves) of Willowdale and 10 grand- children. Rev. Reeves conducted the comforting funeral service at Mcdermott-Panabaker funeral home and read a very befitting poem. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends and relatives afterwards 985.7215 or 668-8848 met in the Prince Albert Church. and enjoyed some travelling. - ll i AIAN sch v ) ttl rat nin hich iki Church Services PORT PERRY PASTORAL CHARGE The United Church of . Rose, Minister SUNDAY, JAN. 14th-- Epiphany II 9:30 a.m. Morning Prayer Church School Blackstock W.I On the "afternoon of Jan. 3rd the members of Black- stock Women's Institute met at the township office as guests of the Clerk, Miss Doreen VanCamp. Seated in the council chamber we were given a summary of the duties executed by the clerk, interspersed with informal question and answer periods. We were also invited to come at any time and examine old record books. laws applic- able to the present, or to ask for any information availa ble there. MissVanCamp is compiling a scrap book of pictures of those who have held or are holding public office in Cartwright, as well as of events of public interest, and we were invited to persue it at any time. Miss VanCamp was thanked by the ladies for her informa- tive talk. Members then adjourned to the Township Hall where minutes of last meeting were read and adopted, reports given by Treas., Fruit and Flower Committee, and del- egate to the Area Conven- tion. Thank-you notes for Christmas cheer boxes were read as well as other correspondence. A motion was carried that books for 4H club girls would not be supplied by the W.I. for the next unit. After some discus- sion money was voted to the Save the Children Fund to keep up the adoption of our little girl in Hong Kong though the fee has risen by over $20. Roll call was well answered by a law I would like to see enforced, most members feeling that the most need was for laws dealing with dogs and snow- mobiles. Following reading of the motto "If you can find a path with no dbstacles, it probably doesn't lead you anywhere", Mrs. H. Bailey, convener for the program, read a poem by Edgar Guest, Sermons We See. Mrs. M. McKee gave a humourous reading and meeting closed with God Save the Queen. A contesl followed and a tasy lunct was served by the group. TTS ON TARGET EVERY TIME ST. Service PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Jan. 10th, 1973 -- 13 Keeping it clean with Bill Dodds Sportsmen on ice . . Every spring and through early summer, litter and debris washes up on the beaches of some of our most popular lakes. If you see the lake only in summer, you would wonder where it all comes from. If you visit it in winter, you'd know. Some of the dedicated sportsmen, who ride snowmobiles across the ice in sub-zero temperatures and spend days crouched over a hole ice-fishing, are not dedicated enough. In far too many cases, fhe garbage they accumulate gets left behind. As if that weren't enough, a remarkable number of ice-fisherman revert to sanitary arrangements that are primitive to say the least. And there are always a few fisherman who, through forgetfulness or through the press of business demands on their time, don't get back to the ice in time to take their fishing huts off before the thaw Ontario's Ministries of the Environment and Natural Resources are trying to reach all the sportsmen who enjoy our lakes in winter with a reminder that they have a responsibility to clean up after themselves. The message is simple enough -- Keep garbage bags in ice fishing huts and litter bags on snowmobiles and use them. And if there is no handy public toilet, keep a portable one at the ice fishing hut. Summing it up, Environment Minister James Auld said: "What you leave on the ice this winter washes onto the beaches next summer. So leave nothing behind but your tracks." I's a simple matter of consideration for others. And it's not enough to get trash and sanitary waste out of sight by dumping it down the ice-hole or burying itin a snowdrift. The first method pollutes the water immediately and the second just puts off pollution until spring. ie The only safe rule is-- everything with you. hen you leave the ice, take 533555355395 5535858%93 $3888 9 CAS »33335535553355553835388388$ Lindsay Kinsmen CASH BINGO Wednesday, Jan. 10th, Victoria Park Armouries Lindsay, Ontario $1000 DOOR PRIZES $335333898595838358$ 7:30 p.m. H PRIZES FREE PARKING YS oo © YS yy Ry oo Rx oo Ny © » oo Rood yy © Ry yy <9 ©» YS YS Ny om YY ©» ©» oo oo ADMISSION 50c¢ Ad on $ SS Ra Qe yor WG
