Kelly On Sunday evening a filled church enjoyed the annual Candlelighting Service pre- sented by the United Church Sunday School. The Christ- mas Story was told in a most meaningful manner by song, word and dramatization by the pupils of all departments of the Sunday School. Our hard-working and much appreciated Sunday School Superintendent, Gordon Paisley, conducted the ser- vice in his usual fine manner. The parents of the Sunday School pupils wish to thank Gordon and his staff of fine Sunday School teachers for their efforts all year long and especially for their extra work at this busy time of year. . The organ was played for the hymns and songs by Marie VanCamp and Mrs. Gladys Thompson. Alice Carnaghan sang a solo, "I wonder as I wander" and Leanne Dorrell favoured with another solo, '"'Mary's Song." It was indeed a lovely service. On Monday evening a busload of Faithful Con- servative workers from Cartwright attended a social evening in Port Hope as * guests of newly-elected Alan Lawrence along with fellow workers from all over the riding. Mrs. Annie Fowler, Courtice and Mrs. Florence Fowler, Hampton were Sunday afternoon guests of "Mrs. Alma Fowler. Mrs. Lewis Swain has recently moved into an apartment at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Swain and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Toms and Mrs. Courtney Graham were last Monday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Taylor, Enniskillen. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Devitt and Mr. Alex Flett were mid-week supper visi- tors of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mabhaffy. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Merrill VanCamp, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Assel- stine, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mairs attended the Warden's Ban- quet at Port Hope in honour of Warden Roy Chatten of Brighton. In spite of bad weather a good crowd attended the Senior Citizen's Christmas Card Party. Winners of the prizes which were Christmas gifts were Ladies' High - Mrs. Hill, Second - JoAnne Baunchen, Third - Hazel English. Men's High - Mar- garet Baunchen, Second - Mae Wright, Third - Reid Cook. There was a beauti- fully decorated Christmas Tree which was loaded with gifts which were used for lucky draws. The Senior Citizens would like to thank people of Blackstock and Port Perry who donated these prizes. A Christmas lunch of squares, Chop suey . loaf and cheese, Christmas Cake and apples concluded a v " Blackwater, happy party. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Wes Pierce on the passing of her mother Mrs. N. Crawford on Satur- day morning. Also to Mrs. Anderson on the sudden passing of Mr. Ed. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were one of our new families as they had bought one of the new houses in the Sub- division. Myr. and Mrs. Merrill VanCamp and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and'Mrs. Lloyd Hunter, Port Perry. Their many friends were pleased to see Rev. and Mrs. Philip Romeril at both Church services Sunday. They are in Camada for an extended visit of their family. While here, they are staying with Gordon Paisley and family. Recently a family miscell- aneous shower was held to honour Miss Darlene Donal- dson and Donald Edgerton prior to their marriage. Mrs. Donna Price (nee Donna Edgerton) was hostess for the ocassion assisted by her sister Denice. The shower was held at the home of Donald's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Edgerton. Relatives were present from Picton, Sunderland, Blackstock, Lindsay, Waterloo and Kingston. At noon December 13, the Blackstock U.C.W. held their second Christmas dinner in the Sunday School room of the Church for their hus- bands and the Senior mem- bers of the community. After Mr. Parsons led in Grace, seventy-two sat down to a delightful meal of turkey and all that goes with it. The table was beautifully decor- ated with gold and silver tinsel. Little green trees and Santa's red boots filled. -with candy were fayours for all. Mrs. Gordon Strong playedChristmas music while the tables were being cleared. Then games of elimination were played, one for the. ladies won by Mrs. Percy Van Camp and Mrs. Harold Larmer (tie) and one for the men won by Walter Wright. Mrs. Gladys Thompson and Mr. Parsons led in a Christ- mas singsong. Mrs. Harold Kyte and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin sang several numbers to the delight of all.
