It is one of the few complexes of its kind equip- ped and staffed exlusively for the treatment of on-the- job injuries. It -provides injured Ontario workmen with a one-step centre at which they receive the most advanced medical attention available for treatment of their particular injury, plus a full range of rehabilitation services. Many of these services are provided in on-the-job settings and workshops. Once admitted to the Centre, the patient becomes the focal point of a special- ized team consisting of a doctor, nurse, physiother- apist, occupational thera- pist, remedial gymnast and vocational 'rehabilitation officer. Their job is to help the patient overcome his disability and return to work as soon as possible. An injured workman re- ceives medical or hospital treatment from his own doctor and at a hospital in his own locality, with all ex- penses paid under Work- men's Compensation Act. However, for more serious injuries, the entire capabil- ity of the WCB Downsview Centre and its staff is at his disposal. It is an integral part of the protective pack- age financed by assessments paid by Ontario industries under the Act, with no direct charge to workers or tax- payers. The Rehabilitation Centre at Downsview opened July 1, 1958, and is the outgrowth of the Board's first medical rehabilitation clinic set up in Gives reason for recent increases General Motors of Canada Limited issued the following statement today inh reply to the statement by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce on the recent price increase. General Motors of Canada has consistently and suc- cessfully worked on narrow- ing the price gap between the prices of motor vehicles in Canada and the United States since the inception of the Canada-U.S. Automotive Trade Agreement in 1965. The price increase effec- tive December 4, 1972 is limited to the recovery of the cost of improved bumpers and other safety and emiss- ion equipment without mark- up. There have béen no price increases torefledt increased costy of labour, material, etc.,!since January 13, 1972. The company is reviewing these other cost factors and competitive circumstances and within the next few weeks will come to a decision on final 1973 model prices on cars sold by GM of Canada. TTS) a single room in 1932. It grew out of the Board's determin- ation to ensyre that the province's more seriously injured workmen would re- ceive any special type of treatment their injury might need from experts with a . wide background of exper- ience in dealing with. their particular requirements. The . Centres includes a .180-bed Hospital Section for patients needing, convales- cent hospital care, and a Clinic Section which can accommodate 340 patients who require supervised physical, occupational ther- apy 'and remidial gymn- astics to restore function to the injured part of the body. An additional 60 patients living in the Metro Toronto area come to the Centre as out-patients for a full day's treatment. Activity, not rest, is the keynote.
