The Canada Manpower Centres in both Oshawa and Ajaxt report an increase in place- ment activity over Sept- ember of this year. With October representing the first month since the beginning of summer when local industries have had few employees on summer vaca- tion, production schedules have resumed at a steady to increased rate. General Mo- tors and Houdaille have both hired additional staff and regularly scheduled over- time has been introduced in both companies. As a result, feeder plants supplying mat- erial to General Motors have also experienced increases. Area manufacturing firms report good to increased production with good pro- spects for the month of November. The demand_for general labour was easily filled although some short- ages for skilled tradesmen still exist. Trained colour T.V. repairmen, licenced bodymen, fibreglass lay-up men, and experienced foun- dry help are all in short supply. Persons without employ- ment and registered with the Canada Manpower Centres in Oshawa and Ajax totalled 2,290 males and 2,655 fe- males. Scugog News|. We are so pleased to report that Carl Graham has im- proved enough to come to the Port Perry Community Nur- sing home and will be glad to. see all who can pay him a visit. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love went to Toronto to see Grace's mother who has broken her hip to add to her recent illness. We do hope everything will work out well and she will soon see brighter days. Your correspondent was deeply touched by the sup- port and concern shown by many unexpected people during the past week when trouble touched her family. There was a good at- tendance at 'Grace'" on Sunday. His message for the ON TARGET EVERY TIME Port Perry. Star children was particularly meaningful when it was illustrated by a display of various containers and the importance of their contents as compared to our own lives. In his continued dis- cussion of Stewardship di- rected to the adults he reverted to the early Chris- tian Church of 55A.D. when persecution came to a head. Many Christians were killed, fled or went underground. Paul, in'his anxiety for the continuance of the faith, requested the gathering of gifts to help the church in Jerusalem. Again, we ask, "What is a community = LET AN EXPERT DO IT... | NN ~~ without a church?"' We, who have been given so much thro' the cross must. give thro' the church. We have a responsibility to preserve our heritage for our children. Plant. the best seed if you wish to reap the best harvest. Through statistics we learn that the United Church is large in numbers who claim to be its adherents but is among the lowest when it comes to stewardship of givings from these same adherents: Are we guilty of pag a higher value on material possessions for ourselves? ~ Installations "Renovations ' Pump Repairs] Call To-day!| Murray Burnfield is pleased to be associated with Consumers Gas and would be happy to quote prices on installation of gas to your home or business.
