Sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mrs. Fred Trewin and family. as well as to other relatives in the area on the sudden passing of her brother-in-law Mr. Roy Trewin in a traffic accident on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Samells were honoured by their family recently at a dinner party at the home of their son, Mr. and Mrs. Melville Samells, Bowman- " ville on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. Many useful gifts were received from their daughter Ann, son Melville and fam- ily. Mr. Tom Horton enjoyed a moose hunt in Northern Ontario last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gursharan S. Dhigra, Toronto were mid- week visitors and Mrs. O. Beacock and Mr. Ernie White, Port Perry were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Beacock and Bob, Glad to report that Bob has recovered from the measles. Winners at the weekly Tuesday evening card party were Ladies High, Merte Masters; Second - Ruby Geer; Consolation Agnes Prescott. Men's high Bert Gibson; Second J.R. Holder- shaw; Consolation Tennyson Samells. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Archer along with Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Archer visited Mrs. Archer's sister Mrs. F. Cooke in Orillia. Hospital recently. Mrs. Cooke who is over, 90 years old had undergone surgery before this visit. On Tuesday night Mr. and Archer and girl friend of Whitby, Mr. and Mrs. Don Fleming and Janice of Osha- wa were callers of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Archer. During the week, Messrs. Herb. and Harold Swain attended the cattle sale at New Leaskard in Northern Ontario. They were sur- prised to see Al Asselstine acting as clerk of the sale, Also they met Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Dorrell whom they visited at their' home at Charlton. : : Rev. Clarence Ferguson, Don Mills was a weekend guest of Mrs. O. Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Porter and family. On Sunday, he was the guest speaker for the Thanksgiving Service at the United Church while Rev. and Mrs. V. Parsons and family were attending a family wedding in United States. During Sunday after- noon, Rev, C. Ferguson and Mrs. Hill visited Mrs. Ferg- uson at the Rest Home between Whitby and Osh- awa. In the evening, they attended a family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ferguson and boys. Also there were Mr. and Mrs. George Dunabr and family, Scarborough, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Morton and boys, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wright and family and Mr. Dennis Romeril. There was much excite- ment on Saturday noon when Mr. Leith Byers took a weak spell at the Post Office. The ambulance was called but by the time it arrived he had rallied. However, he was taken to Port Perry Hospital _and family, Blackstock News Meanwhile Mrs. Byers is with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Byers. Many of our young people were home from their var- ious universities and places of work for the holiday weekend. Many too brought friends with them to share in the holiday festivities. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Barr Orono were weekend guests of her par- ents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Strong. Mr. and Mrs. Francis, Nova Scotia are spending sometime visiting their son, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Francis and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Archer spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Archer, Whitby. Mr. and Mrs, " George Bryant and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bryant and family, Ashburn and Supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ormiston and family, Brooklin. NURSING HOME NEWS There were no admittances to or departures from the Home during the week. On Tuesday evening seve- ral members of the Port perry Baptist Church visited with us and put on an excellent service. Pastor Payne was unable to be present so Mr. Mabley had the service. Mrs. Beacock played the piano and the meeting opened with the singing of many favorite gospel songs. Mr. Mabley favoured us with a solo following which Mr. Elford read a portion from the Bible. Patsy Smith gave a word of Testimony and Andy Mabley, Kathy and Paul Jones sang together another favorite selection. Mr, Smith brought ashort message and then Mr. Beacock closed the meeting in Prayer. The residents of the home are most grateful to the Baptists for putting on these releigious services and by Mr. John Kelly. Our thanks are also due to Rev. Father Paul Vernooy of the Immacualte Conception Church who visited with us on the First Friday of the month and served Holy Communion to the Catholic residents of the Home. Another course leading toa diploma as a Nursing Assis- tant is now under way. The Course is a sixteen week one and is operated under the auspices of Durham College. Mrs. Doris Taylor, RN is in charge of the course. Alto- gether there are twelve pupils enrolled, seven of whom are from the Port Perry Nursing Home. Those from Port Perry are Leslie DeNure, Ada Panter, Ruth Wilson, Louise Luke, Tony McNaughton, Susan Healey and Lynn Arney. Talking of studying, we had a visit from' Joy Smith, a member of our staff whois taking the R.N.A. When Jerry Jackman, Jr., goes fishing he doesn't kid around. That's Jerry to the right of Gord MacMillan and his son, Matthew. Jerry bagged this 41%2-in., 17-Ib., muskie, almost his own size, during a recent fishing venture on Lake Scugog with Gord and son. The elder MacMillan did well, too: a 22-1b. muskie which he says is the biggest bag so far. The lines were dipped about one mile off Port Perry. Dept. of Health. Joy has completed her training at the Women's College Hospital and is now at the hospital for Sick Children' in Toronto. The following residents 'visited their homes during the Thanksgiving: Mrs. Mae Lloyd, Mr. Glen Hood, Mr. Wentworth Watson, Mr. John who were out during the week were: Mrs. Violet Edwards, Mrs. Les Graham, Mrs. Nellie Coyle, Mr. Eli Mairs and Mrs. Marae Lether.
