oo ¥ N AY ARR VEALED ARRA SRA 32 XO R BALA IVT SENOHON SR eA RA MN I AS A ASL 14-PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, March 1, 1972 Borelians Theatre The Borelians Amateur Theatre Group will present three one-act plays Friday. and Saturday evenings (March 3 amd 4). Curtain time on both nights is 8:15 at Port Perry High School, and tickets will be on sale at the door. : The three plays, "Over: laid" be Robertson Davies, "The Marriage Proposal' by Anton Chekhov, and 'Im- promptu" by Tad Mosel will provide ample entertain- ment for just about any taste in live theatre. "Impromptu" brings four characters together on a nearly empty stage to live out fragments of their lives both as real people and as actors playing roles. The play itself resolves-nothing; this is'left to thie audience. Diane Lackie is the direc- tor and Carol Aird, Randy Watson, Sharon Lackie and Robert McLaurin make up the all-student cast. 3 " Playing Ernest in "Impromptu" by Tad Mosel, Robert McLaurin is on bended knee before Winnifred (Sharon Lackie). Randy Watson and Carol Aird are in background. He's not really asking for her hand. In "The Marriage Propo- sal" a Russian Landowner finally decides to take a wife, but while proposing gets into a monumental quarrel with his intended over property boundaries. The farce: in- tensity - as the intended's father joins the quarrel. This is too much for the land- owner who - "'dies" before their eyes. He is revived in a most unusual manner and the quarrel continues. John: Rodway, Judy 'MacColl and Paul Gouett plays the char- acters in one of the most famous Chekhov's plays. From a farcical look at pre-revolution life in rural Russia, '"Overlaid'"' exa- mines some of the life and thinking of two people in rural Ontario, Director Jack Cawker has taken one small liberty with the original text to make the 'play's main character the "bohemian ~set of "Reach > Lepp. LS Township all in one man." . Robertson Davies' writing of "Overlaid" indicates the knowledge and compassion he has for rural life in this province, And. while the audiencé: may laugh at the two main characters, Pop and Ethel, the audience may ° also see some of themselves, Jim Baird and Beryl: Pearce play the leading roles, along. with David 5 As mentioned, 'the scope and content of these three 'plays is varied. The plays will make you laugh, and they will also make you think. And besides this, they'll provide you with a pretty fair evening of good entertainment, . Port Perry High School, March 3 and 4.
