PORT PERRY * STAR * + 'Novice team wins over Newcastle, Oshawa Wednesday, December 8, Tripp Construction Novice played an exhibition game against * Oshawa L.N.H.L. Canadians and were victori- ous by a score of 4-1, Scor- ing for Tripps was Franssen from Burnett, Fellows un- assisted, Canning from Bur- . nett and Franssen, and Fel- lows from Ashmore. On Friday, December 10, the boys were at home for a league game against New- castle, This was one of the more exciting games of the year as Newcastle provided very keen competition, In the first period Port scored early on an unassist- ed goal by Durward. New- castle fought back strongly and tied the score late in the period. In the second period the Port boys had many scoring opportunities but Newcastle were able to score the only goal of the period giving them a 2-1 lead after two periods. During the third period each' team scored three . times, giving Newcastle a 54 win. Port goals were scored by: Fellows from Kane and * Brown; Canning from Bur- nett & Franssen and Frans- sen from Burnett & Brown, Port received excellent goal tending by Freeman and Gibson. Bantam team score 23-3 wins in three games 'The Port Perry Bantam No. 2 Team won three games in the last week. Last " Wednesday: evening the team _overwhelmed Ux- bridge by a score of 23 - 3. The scoring in this game was divided fairly evenly among the team members. Williams and Kane. had three goals each, with Hadley scoring six times, Taylor also scored three goals with Crawford, Goris and Breedon getting two each. Singles were counted by Wackett and Pilkey. On Friday night--the Bantams went to Stouffville and skated to a 6 - 1 victory. Kane, Wackett, Hadley, Vanschagen, Taylor and Goris split the scoring with five of the six goals coming in the first period. .In the final two periods, the team settled into a close checking defensive game limiting the opposition to one goal. On Saturday, goalie Doug Culbert earned his second shutout of the season as the Bantams downed Pickering 7-0. Williams and Taylor led the scoring with two goals each, while Lee, Asseltine, and Wackett added single markers.
