On Friday evening an ex- cellent crowd attended the community shower in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Argus (Joan Wotten) Vernon Assel- stine was the genial M.C. for the following programme -- Linda McLaughlin, Piano so- lo; Judy Mountjoy, reading; Wendy Lee, piano solo; Mrs. Harold Larmer, two readings; Lori Ann Emerson, piano so- lo; VanCamp sisters sang several duets accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Richard VanCamp. The bride and groom were presented with a card table and chairs, liv- ing room clock, electric cof- fee perc as well as other gifts. Both Joan and Floyd replied fittingly. Lunch was served and the remainder of the evening was spent danc- ing. Mrs. Leith Byers has been moved from Oshawa Hospital to Port Perry Nursing Home. Miss Debbie McLaughlin has sepnt a week in Bramp- ton visiting her cousins Hea- ther, Pam and Penny Read. The Read Sisters had spent the week previous with Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin & Debbie. Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lawrence were Mr. and Mrs. M. Good- win, Fort Meyers, Florida and Mr. and Mrs: Jim Cookson, Oshawa. Sunday guests were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fowler of Toronto. Paul Webb of Wooller spent a week's holiday re- cently with his cousin Colin Asselstine. Throughout the weekend, this area has seen evidences of the Rock Festival at near- by Mosport. Mrs. Mervyn Graham is a patient in Port Perry Hospital but is hoping to be able to re- turn home soon. Kevin stayed for a holiday with his guandpar ents. Obituary Earl Clark Dorrell The death of Earl Clark Dorrell occurred in Marinette, Wisconsin, U.S.A. on July 11. He had been in ailing health for some time and was in his 79th year. He was born in Simcoe County where he received his education. In 1908 Mr. Dorrell moved to Cartwright where he farmed also township assessor. In 1919 he married the former Annie Ferguson who predeceased him in 1958. In 1969 he married Hannah Johnston of Wisconsin who survives. Mr. Dorrell was an elder of Blackstock United Church of which he was a very active member throughout his life- time. He was the superintend- ent of Blackstock Sunday School for over twenty-five years and was secretary of the Cartwright Bible Society. He was also a loyal member of the Orange Lodge, L.0.L.133, Blackstock. He is survived by his wife, Hannah, three sons, Roger, Ottawa; Dalton and Stuart of Blackstock; and eleven grandchildren. One brother, Edward of Midland also sur- vives. On Tuesday evening, July 14 an Orange Service was conducted by the officials of L.0.L.133 and was well attended by Orange brethern from neighbouring lodges.
