The August meeting of Honeydale Women's Institute was held on Thursday, August 6th, at the lovely lakeside home of Mrs. Louellen Clarke at Gerrow's ig The president, Miss Alice Dodd welcomed the twenty- five members and three visitors. After the usual formal opening with the W.I. Ode follows - by the creed the secrerary Flossie Ploughman read the June minutes. As a response to the roll call each member came forward for a copy of the 1970-71 prog- ramme. Vera Honey gave the Treas. report. Correspondence included besides a thank you note from Mrs. Raines who had been ill, notice of a "Training School* on "The Third Meal," to be held in Uxbridge, Sept. 9, and 10, and a short course on "Institute Procedure' given by Mrs. Pardy at Greenbank on Sept. 29th. _ Mrs, De Yongethen livened up the meeting with a game after which Mabel Cawker composed and read a dissert- ation in honour of Minnie and Paul Diamond who celebrated their fortieth wedding anniver- sary recently. This was immed- iately followed by a short address prepared and read by the W. I. by Mrs. Marion Bell to Mr. and Mrs. Diamond. Miss Janice Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nel- son Williams has just received the Ethel Chapman award which is the Women's Institute Ontario County Scholarship. A letter of congratulations is being sent to Janice on behalf of the local branch of the W.I. We also wish her well in the Home Economics Course in which she is enrolled at the University of Guelph. Irene Whitfield reported for the local Fairs. She brought a round of applause when she reported the sum of money earned at the Brooklin Fair. Mr. Fair, Agricultural Rep- resentative for Ontario County will be guest speaker at the Sept. 3rd meeting in the Municipal Hall. The W.I. Grace was sung before a most satisfying tea was served by the hostess. As the members gathered on the lawn for farewell, Mrs. Cornish took pictures which will appear in the "Tweeds- muir History Book' of which she has custody. Utica News Service will be held in Utica United Church on Sun- day, August 16th, at 11:30 am. We are very pleased with our new minister Mr. John Hopkins. Do come to hear him.
