Sunderland 357-3270 No Increase In Measles The Oshawa-Ontario County Health Unit reports no in- crease in the incidence of German Measles in the area in spite of a warning by the Canadian Pediatrics Society that an epidemic of the dis- ease is imminent. A spokesman said no im- mediate mass programs are planned as re- commended by the society. The health unit plans to inoculate all 10,000 pupils in Grades one and two in the county with a German meas- les' vaccine in September. The pediatricians believe the danger could be elimin- ated if all children under age 11 were inoculated. A woman who is exposed to the disease during the first three months of pregnancy runs a 30 to 40 per cent chance of giving birth to a child with physical or mental defects. His research will be con- cerned with the biochemistry of certain nerve poisons used extensively to control cattle ticks in Australia; besides its scientific interest, this research may bear on the practical problem created by the in- creasing resistance in ticks to this means of control. Firm Seeks To Put Up A $1,000 community bulletin board may be set up in front of the Post Office if a Brooklin Company is suc- cessful in getting some person or organization to look after notices. John Horst of Brooklin Bulletin Publishing Co. Ltd. told Port Perry council last week his company would erect the board free. The cost -- valued by Mr. Horst at $1,000 -- would be covered through advertise- ments on plaques mounted on the board. Village Bulletin Board The last community bulletin board -- which cost the village $300 to erect -- was destroyed by vandals on Hallowe'en last year. Mr. Horst said his bulletin board would be enclosed in an aluminum case with an unbreakable plexiglass front. The board would also be insured by the company. Council informed Mr. Horst that at present it did not have anyone to look after the board and suggested that he approach the chamber of commerce with his idea. PORT ORT ACTON (8, BUI.
