RRS Ure | . 8 OLN Fee CASES VE NETRA ER 3 \ 4 18 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, July 2, 1970 PORT PERRY * STAR «x C Pack On Camping Tour On ¥yiday, June 19th, ¢ Pack gathered "at the Scout Hall, loaded equipment into Lloyd Durwood's truck and a few cars, and took off for Ray Munroe's farm for a week-end of camping. Arriving at the camp site everybody was busy erecting tents for 32 boys attending the camp. Also taking part were Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Pelletier and family, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Lee and family, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Durwood and family. Saturday evening Mr. & Mrs. Tom Tarrant and son Tommy joined the group and Allan Sykes. Murray Gibson toast- ed over six loaves of bread for each breakfast. Friday evening after the 'boys gathered around the WESTERN camp fire for a sing song and enjoyed freshie with dough- nuts, off to bed for a good night's sleep. Saturday morning breakfast at 8 p.m., followed by camp inspection and then roaming the woods until noon and again in the afternoon. After supper the boys enjoyed football and baseball and campfire at 9 p.m. with toast- ed marshmallows and bed at 10 p.m. Sunday was breakfast, in- spection, a short church school, and then off for swimming. Mr. Ploughman served barbequed hot dogs for lunch when the boys re- turned. After lunch camo was struck and the grounds cleaned before returning thome. Gary Chapman of the OPP was special guest. He showed slides on bicycle safe- ty and checked the cubs' bikes for safety. In his clos- ing address he asked the cubs and parents to put safety first and to remember our children are not careless only carefree. ) B pack has had a busy year and starting September an- other busy year for B pack. Club Francais were winning at the end of the first inning 2-1 when R. Me- Linton hit a home run bring: ing _in R. Martin. P. Butt was brought in by a hit from Il JK. Goreski for the Tigers. Club Francais were win- ning at the bottom of the eigth 145 and Annrene Tig- ers gained 4 runs in their last batting with bases load- ed and none out when due to unsportsman conduct of 2 Club Francais' players the game was forfeited to Ann- rene Tigers. At this meet Wilma won honours in the « 220, 880 and 440 relay as well as the high jump and long | jump events. On Tuesday, June 23, at a West Northumberland and Durham County Track and Field Meet held at Clarke District High 'School, Wilma won the Bantam - Girls' Championship trophy for her efforts in the long jump, 2 100 yd. dash, relay and high jump. This competition inelud- ed competitors from 23 different schools in the area.The competition was very keen at this event and Wilma emerged with more points in the Bantam Girls' section than any of her rivals.
