aii oN A ad ou _ able source of information, 'on the: Proposed Provincial ~concerned resident said that Port Perry, Ontario May 21, 1970 Dear Mr. Hvidsten: What a beautifully' bound Volume of the 1969 Editions of the Port Perry Star! It is for your kind gesture in presenting this Volume to "the Port Perry Library that I am sending this, "thank you" letter from the Library - Board which is comprised of: Mr. B. Smith, chairman; Mrs. .Evelyn Allen, treasurer; Mrs. Doris Beare, Magazines; Mr. P. Willis, Maintenance; Mar- garet Cornsih, Secretary. This will be a very valu- and a useful addtion to our shelves. And so on behalf of the Community and especially the borrowers our sincere thanks and appreciation. Margaret Cornish, Secretary LETTER TO EDITOR: Chalk Lake The Editor, Port Perry Star, Port Perry, Ont. Dear Sir: - Missed were our repre- sentatives Dr. Dymond and Mr.. Newman, when the Min- ister of Mines, the Hon. A. Lawrence spoke at Uxbridge Secondary School on May 21, By-laws covering Pits and Quarries. Mr. Lawrence ex- plained that the House was having a night sitting and that both men had heard his speech before. What was be- ing discussed at Queen's Park we hope was important. One bab bed i re Bt CATER BAe Te RS om EDITOR these M.P.P.s might have heard his speech |, before, however being elsewhere on Thursday night they, the M.P.P:s are not attuné to our concern, Because they' are our Representatives they are better able to communicate to the Minister, the feelings of us, their constituents. We realize that the grave] aues- tion like all other questions have differing points of view. At the meeting it was felt that (1) the committee itself was made up of possibly 70% of those who were in some way interested or connected with the extraction or sale of gravel, and (2) that the re- port itself despite Mr. Lawr- ence's attempted explanation favoured the industry. . No one from local muni. cipal level was chosen to prepare their Report. Be- cause effects of this proposed legislation are felt primarily at a local level we now de- pend upon our Queen's Park members. When the Minister of Mines, from a Toronto Rid- ing thinks in terms of '"Pub- lic Interest" we depend up- on our M.P.P.s from this area to convey to the Minister what "Public Interest" means here. This area has been re- cently zoned by Queen's Park as a greenbelt area, hardly compatable to wholesale strip mining for Toronto Construc- tion ahd later restoration by Metro garbage. - Mrs. D. E. Misses Susanne Munro, Kim McClure, and Miss Esther Houghland assisted the bride RR. #3, . Port Perry, Ont. May 25th, 1970. Dear Mr. Editor: On behalf of the youth of the Port Perry area I would like to express my feelings towards the content of your newspaper. I myself think that you are not being fair to the younger generation, Take for example the May 14th edition, the column about the behaviour of some unruly young people on the main street. It made the front page, whereas all the good things the youth do such as Drama Night made ing that was placed on -the last page. The Dodge that rolled into the lake even got more cover- age than Drama Night. Put some of the good things the youth do-on the front page. After all violence doesn't have to sell a paper, or does it? Sincerely, portance of this meeting, the question was raised why did the Press not give advance Public Notice of it. All should have been able to -at- tend and give their views.
