All the cubs were then lifted aboard the plane and viewed 'the cockpit. and control panels. Wed., May 19 B pack raced their Derby cars and 4 cubs won for the run off Sat. May 23. Friday night, May 22 a good number of B pack were present for the going up to Scout party. Steve Pal- lant left B pack and joined the Scouts of 1st Port Perry. On Sat. night B Pack cubs, parents and brothers, sisters were present at the Scout Hall for B pack spring Pot Luck Supper at 6:30. Akela Saulinier, © Marianne Smits, Don Waldinsperger, had the people file in for supper be- fore supper Steve Smith was invested as a new cub, he then left (with Kevin Ausman to join the Pine Wood Derby race. The Pot Luck Supper was a great success. Mr. Norm Cafik, M.P., Mrs. Cafik and 4 of their children were B pack guests~==After supper the cubs opened the evening program with the grand howl with 'Mr. Cafik taking the grand howl. The cubs under Marianne Smits showed the parents some of the work they learned during the win- ter. Don Waldinsperger boys showed how to tie knots Miss Suzanne Saulnier pre- sented Mrs: Calfik with 6 red roses on behalf of B pack cubs. Mr. Cafik presented the cubs with their stars and badges earned. Tim Bower was voted as best cub of the year and was presented with of B pack. ; During supper Marianne Smits asked 'Akela to stand and Akela was then present- ed with a watch from the cubs & leaders from B pack. The week of May 19 to 23 was a very busy week for the leaders and cubs of Port Perry. Of all the leaders & helpers 3 should be thanked with all our heart. They are Akela Stan Ploughman, Mari- anne Smits and Don Waldin- sperger. These 3 worked every night and all day Sat. for the Pine Wood Derby. In closing we must not for- get Kevin Reede who was in- vested Sat. night and pre- sented with Port Perry cubs colors by Mr. Cafik. Before the evening was closed Akela Saulnier took Mr. and Mrs. Calik down stairs to watch the Derby 'race. Mr. Cafik was well impressed with the work put in by all the leaders. He went on to say how lucky we were to have men like Stan Plough- man, Geo. Hall and all the others who give of their time for the boys welfare. In closing may I 'Akela Saulnier thank everyone for making Sat. night one of the happiest nights of my life. Thank you. Akela Paul Saulnier Port Perry Rod & Gun The Port Perry Rod & Gun Club rifle team competed in a shooting meet at Colborne St. School in Whitby, Satur- day, May 23rd. Three teams took part in this shoot: Tor- onto, Whitby & Port Perry. Ajax did not appear so a fourth team was made up of four Port Perry members and one Whitby member. The scores were as follows: Whitby 2947 out of a possible 3000 Port Perry 2851 Toronto 2747 NORMAN Port Perry ROCKY' Reg. -1447 - WATSON 985-2471 Once again the Port Perry Cubs are enjoying the Pine- wood Derby. This year we had as guests the cubs from Cartwright and Cannington groups. : On Tuesday night the boys of A Pack under the leader- ship of Akela George Hall. The winners were: For de- sign 1st Clin Jammer; 2nd Wayne Lowne, 3rd Peter Bateman; 4th" Jamie Rose. Speed--1st Steve Brunton; 2nd Marc Mansfield; 3rd Gerry Barton; 4th Rick Wal- lace. Wed. evening B pack with Akela Paul Saulnier and their boys winners were: Speed -- 1st Steven Smith; 2nd Ian Griffen; 3rd Kevin Ausman; 4th Paul Griffen. Design--I1st Allen Waldin- sperger; 2nd Robbie William- son; 3rd Allen Wackett; 4th David Saulnier, Thurs. evening C Pack with Akela Stan Ploughman had their evening. The winners were: : Design -- 1st Jim Wilson; 2nd Mike Kennedy; 3rd Ted- dy Blain; 4th Bill Hurst. Speed--1st 'Garry Gibson; 2nd Robert Evans; 3rd Ron Ashmore; 4th Wayne Free- man. These three groups joined in the races for the first time. The High Single was won by C. Greenfield of Whitby with a score of 594 x 27 x's from a possible 600. Trophies were presented and Whitby Gun Club was congratulated both for their excellent shooting and as hosts of this well run match. Cubs In Pinewood Derby First & Second Cartwright and Cannington. Cartwright raced Friday night and Sat. morning. i For Cartwright winners see the Cartwright news. Sat, - afternoon the pack from Cannington was with Port Perry under the leader- ship of Akela Mary Parlia- ment. Their winners were: Design--1st David Parlia- ment; 2nd Wilfred Parrault; 3rd' Antony Bingham; 4th David Hackney. Speed--1st Leo Peters; 2nd Eric Cotton; 3rd Cameron Cotton; 4th Greg Clark. Sat. evening the judges picked the best car from the 24. The fastest car was chosen by elimination. After the races the judges picked the best design among the racers. The trophies were presented by Stan 'Ploughman and Charlie Reesor. The Trophy winners were: Kevin Ausmond for Speed; Barry Wilkinson for 7 -: : Garry Gibson Best All Round Car in the Racing Division, On June 7th the winners will compete in Oshawa Civie Auditorium with 18 Boys in Design; 18 Boys in racing.
